There are five sports which you win by going backwards; that is, in which backward momentum carries you to victory:

1--Tug-of-war
2--Backstroke
3--High jump
4--Rowing
5--Repelling (rappelling)

I would have two guesses.

My first would be tug of war.

It cannot be rowing or swimming the backstroke as all the competitors would be going backwards and they cannot all win. Tug of war losers go forwards so it has to be that.
