Joseph William Kittinger II (born July 27, 1928) is a former pilot and career military officer in the United States Air Force. He is most famous for his participation in Project Manhigh and Project Excelsior and as being the first man to make a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon.

Ryan C. Gordon (also known as Icculus) is a former Loki Software employee, now responsible for icculus.org, which hosts many Loki Software projects, as well new projects by himself and others.

No dictionaries that I could find (hard copy or online) give any meaning for the word under either spelling.

I don't know exactly "what it means," but upon inquiring, got this response from Ryan C. Gordon:

It's a reference to a character in a concept album by the band Phish.
