The Great Wave off Kanagawa

"The Great Wave off Kanagawa" is considered Japan's most famous painting, and that's for good reason. Firstly, its painter was none other than the beloved Katsushika Hokusai. Secondly, the painting was featured in a series of thirty-six different woodblock prints that featured Mount Fuji, which has significant spiritual meaning in Japan.

If you look closely at the background of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," you can indeed see the slight peak of Mount Fuji, which is dwarfed by the waves. Finally, the print was one of the first in Japan to use Prussian blue, a bright blue synthetic pigment that was adored by Japanese ukiyo-e artists.
