Portrait of Agnolo Doni

"Portrait of Agnolo Doni" is one of two portraits of a diptych by Raphael Sanzio, the other depicting the rich merchant's wife. Raphael was believed to have studied the artwork of Leonardo da Vinci before taking on the commission for this portrait, with some art historians believing the Renaissance painter even got a chance to peruse the "Mona Lisa." It shows in this portrait, as one can see similar poses and backgrounds in da Vinci's work and this one.

Raphael added one more layer to the portrait, as the back of this painting depicts the Roman myth of Jove flooding the Earth, while his wife's accompanying portrait includes its rebirth afterwards on its reserve.
