Subject: Fantasy Knockout starts Tues Dec, 7

Posted by: Terry
Date: Dec 06 10

The new Gold Member game, "Fantasy Fun Trivia Knockout" begins tomorrow (Tuesday), inspired by the concepts present in games such as Fantasy Football.

Each Tuesday, Gold Members will be able to draft their "Fantasy Knockout Team" for the week. You may pick this team any time on Tuesday -- selection is open for that 24 hour window.

How does it work?

On Tuesday go to link http://www.funtrivia.com/knockout/

You will be presented with a list of 7 random knockout tournaments from which to pick 1 player in each. All players see these same 7 tournaments.

Then, go to the "Make/View My Picks" page, and select the player from each tournament who you think will win this week. For example, you may have to pick this week from those players in tournaments #1, #15, #24, #38, #66, #69, #70.

Your "fantasy" or "dream" team for the week will therefore consist of 7 players.

I have devised a humorous, somewhat insighful generated-by-computer "Knockout Program", analogous to a racing guide at a horse race track, that gives a little write up on each player in each division.

You can use that information to choose your players, pick teammates, friends, or just pick randomly. Your goal is to pick players who you think will do best that week!

Scoring

You will then gain "fantasy points" each night of the week based on how well your team of 7 players performs:

+2 points for each player who survives to the next day.

+1 point for every day one of your players scores the highest score in his/her tournament (Tue,Wed,Thur only).

+1 point if one of your players is an "underdog" and advances. An "underdog" is defined as a player who is not in the "top 5 most picked players" in that tournament this week.

+8 points bonus for each player who wins his/her tournament.

So, if you chose player Terry, and Terry wins Tuesday night and has the highest score in his division, you will gain +3 points from Terry that night.

If Terry is not one of the 5 most picked players in his tournament, then you get an underdog bonus of +1 each day Terry wins.

The player with the most "fantasy points" at the end of the week wins!

The highest possible weekly score for a player is therefore 4+4+4+(3+8) = 23.
The highest possible score for all 7 players is therefore 161.

Special Rules

Code of Niceness

Keep in mind that your players WILL lose. In fact, often ALL of those you choose will lose, just as YOU will often lose. They will sometimes sleep in, be sick, forget to play, etc. That's life.

Since this game is designed to add a little more spice and fun, and a little more tense, friendly competition, we have very strict rules against contacting players with remarks for losing/no-showing, etc.

There is a zero tolerance policy for anything even resembling negative remarks.

Feel free to send your players compliments and congrats when they win for you.

Players in Chosen Tournaments must not share their scores on Tuesdays

You may not contact chosen-tournament players on Tuesday to ask those who have already played what their scores were, or share with your team what your scores were while players are still picking their team. This gives certain players an unsporting advantage.

Participation

While only Gold Members may participate in the game, any player may be chosen.

For the first week we will run without an "opt-out" function. If enough players do not want to be selectable, I may add such a feature in the near future.

IMO, worrying about letting people down is misplaced. First, you will only be selectable once every 10 weeks on average.

Next, remember that 50% of all players get eliminated on the first day! Thus, you being eliminated day 1 is actually the expected result, and you can't exactly be disappointed about that.

Besides, it's their fault for picking you. They should have known you'd sleep in ;)

Almost all of our greatest players routinely lose early and often -- that's just how it goes in the Knockout arena!

Awards

Tentatively, the following challenges will be added in the coming days.

Fantasy Winner (badge): Awarded to the player(s) with the highest fantasy score at the end of the week.

Fantasy 2 of 7 (badgelet): Awarded to a player who has 2 of 7 players win the finals.

Fantasy Underdog (badgelet): Awarded if you pick a "non-favored pick" who wins his/her tournament. A "non-favored pick" is defined as a player who is not in the top-5 most picked players in the tournament.

(A cumulative score challenge, but undecided as to what that value is at this time)

Good picking, and good luck!
