I'd like to express my approval of the Monthly Dueler Badge. My teammate winning this badge last month inspired me to play the duel consistently this month for the first time in a while. For me, its brought new life to a game that sometimes can drag a bit because of the very large number of wins needed to move up the ladder at higher levels. Reply #1. Jan 18 20, 5:10 PM |

Had this thread been open earlier, I would have posted a congratulations to one of my opponents in the last week or two. I don't remember who it was or what category, but I did lose to someone who scored a perfect 1000. I think this was the first time that happened to me, so congratulations to my now nameless opponent. Don't you know by now that you're supposed to write stuff like that down somewhere so you can hold a grudge? A friendly grudge I mean. :-) Reply #3. Jan 19 20, 7:57 AM |

Even when I know all the answers instantly, my fingers can't seem to keep up, so no score of 1000 for me so far. I think my best is 997 or 996 and I'm pretty sure it was on Horror movies. Kudos to the players who manage to hit the 1000 target so often. Reply #4. Jan 19 20, 8:41 AM |

I also lost to a player scoring 1000, Andy, although it was more than a couple of weeks ago. I had scored quite high, at least 997 and maybe 998. Just seeing that 1000 in a Duel took the sting out of losing and I wrote my opponent at the time to congratulate them. Reply #5. Jan 19 20, 11:46 AM |

That's a tough one. 998-996 is my highest scoring loss. Didn't really bother me, I could have gone faster. Kudos to my opponent! Reply #6. Jan 19 20, 11:58 AM |

I am not as bugged by a high scoring loss as I used to be. The ones that annoy me most these days are when I bump a wrong answer when I knew the right one, and lose by less than 50 points. Not a common thing but it does happen. Reply #7. Jan 19 20, 12:09 PM |

Life too short for a trivia game to upset me...much. But two answers for a question that have a minor spelling variation do get me mildly annoyed. It's not the quiz authors fault though. They wrote the question for an untimed quiz and I have the ability to slow down enough to read the answers if I really cared about it that much. Reply #8. Jan 19 20, 1:44 PM |

Yes, answerman, those are the ones that bother me most, too - when I could very easily have won, but lose due to some mistake entirely on my own part. The edge of my finger coming down on the touch screen and hitting the wrong answer on my way to the correct one, usually. Reply #9. Jan 19 20, 7:44 PM |

Agony and answerman...I have the same problem. Reply #10. Jan 20 20, 1:31 AM |

Just played Canadian duel...oh woe is me!! not one question on Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot.... I did know 3 of the answers but guessed the rest. I am waiting a pairing with a score in the 400's...could I get lucky? Reply #11. Jan 20 20, 1:59 AM |

My score was actually 499 and I did win it. Reply #12. Jan 20 20, 2:19 AM |

This reminds me that I need to write a quick question about Leonard Cohen. Reply #13. Jan 20 20, 5:41 AM |

...and new question already submitted and waiting for approval. :-) I think I won all 5 duels this morning, haven't checked. What a nice variety of topics today. "Guitars" for me and a surprisingly good mix of subjects that nobody can accuse of being too biased towards Americans. Let's see......"Canadian Music", "British TV", "Poetry" and "World". I'm not sure if penguins claim any nationality but I know that Chilly Willy lived in Antarctica. Reply #14. Jan 20 20, 10:20 AM |

Hope so! I think it turned out well. But you guys will let me know with your ratings. :-) Reply #16. Jan 20 20, 4:34 PM |

I'm hoping my recent trend will continue. My first question has a 30% rating. I know this is due to my answer choices. The answer is a man's name which has two initials. And I used his real last name and different two letter combinations for the other options. Not only is that not very creative, players don't like that very much...including myself. That was at least 9 years ago that I wrote that one and I haven't even tried writing another one until the beginning of this year. My second question was recently seen in the NQG and I just saw that the rating so far is at 70%. I'm happy with that. Back to the Duels you stupid wolf says Flopsy as she pokes me with a pointy stick. Ouch! Reply #17. Jan 20 20, 5:14 PM |

"Chickens!" ...is the last known words of Capt. James Cook. Not really but it sounds plausible. Okay not plausible, but possible. Clean 5/5 sweep for me today. Always fun seeing Crash Car in the topic list. Ancient Egypt is a great one too. Reply #18. Jan 22 20, 9:37 AM |

Yeah, I enjoy seeing the history subcategories show up in Duel, even when I get thumped in them. Yesterday we had Vietnam War and I think U.S. Civil War the day before. As for NASCAR, I've developed a brilliant strategy of selecting either Jeff Gordon or whatever the top answer is. Results have been mixed but I'm calling it a success story anyway. Reply #19. That is similar to my strategy for NASCAR. I never followed it but I lived in "the South" long enough to absorb a fair bit of name recognition by osmosis. The"if an Earnhardt, Petty, Gordon, or Busch is there...jump on it." strategy is usually good for about 500-550 which is just enough more often than not. Reply #20. Jan 22 20, 12:09 PM |
