Subject: Anyone here who dislikes 'Twilight'

I feel as if I'm the only one who thinks that a 108 yr. old falling in love with a 17 yr. old is wrong and perverted. Just because you don't look 108 doesn't mean you don't have 108 years of experience in life.

It's a fantasy story.. It is totally done from the imagination.. It doesn't have to be serious.

Well, it could be a lil more realistic. The character of Bella is supposed to be a human in modern times. I just can't buy that a girl would be THAT stupid... but oh well, maybe she's a rarity.

I hadn't really considered the age difference in that light. Edward does seem to be a control freak, and Bella is a complete drip.

I'm a diehard Buffy fan so Twilight upsets me because it is so different from Buffy.

Aside from the obvious age difference, the thing that annoyed me was that men do not lose their ability to procreate upon becoming vampires, but women *do*. The reasons given in the book are a load of baloney. That was pure misogyny and from a female author it's surprising.

And as far as age of our happy couples, the idea of a grown man (legal age at the time) imprinting (falling in love with) a baby immediately after its birth, takes the literary cake for over the top. The fact that the baby in question is the daughter of his ex-girlfriend and romantic rival does not make the situation any more endearing, nor does the fact that the baby is a toddler within a short time. He's still thinking 'this the girl I will marry and have children with someday'. It's disturbing.

I haven't read them, personally I don't intend to. Everybody won't stop talking about them, it's getting a bit annoying.

I read the set and I thought it deteriorated with each book. As far as I'm concerned, the last one was a complete waste of money.
My daughter disagrees completely.

Funnibuni, it's vampires. Take them with a grain of salt. Geez.

I've never read them but I am in favor of anything that encourages people to read.

I've only read parts of the books but from what I've read at least half of it is pretty much completely pointless and the whole series could've been done in 2 books. However, I don't think the story is that bad, however, the hype and obsession over it is what turns me away from it.

It's just another pop culture phase people fall into. Like Deacon said, now younger ages are starting to read and that's a great positive. Personaly, I've read a few passages from the first book and I wasn't impressed. Then again, vampire romances aren't my cup of tea.

Several people have posted that they 'hate' the Twilight series. Please remember one of our basic rules: If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything.

I haven't read the series and highly doubt that I will.

Having said that, if a series encourages any particular demographic to read, then that series must have some benefit. (Similar to other popular series that have come out recently).

Is it acceptable to discuss nicely what one found 'lacking' in a book series after reading it? I agree that saying, "It's junk' adds nothing to a discussion, but sometimes one does read a highly hyped book and finds much within its pages to be objectionable for one reason or another.

Discuss the books by all means, but I've seen over time when people start saying they 'hate' a book it causes arguments especially from younger members.

I started reading Twilight just to see why all my friend were obsessed. I found myself really disliking Bella. That's the main reason I didn't enjoy the book. The book would have been better if the main character was better. Also, why can the vampires go out in the sun?

I also wondered why the vampires could go out in the sun and do things against the normal vampire stereotypes but then again Edward is pretty much the perfect "man" which is, in my opinion what attracts most female readers to the series. They love the perfect love story where the girl (which they wish was themselves) finds the perfect "man".
Sorry ladies but Edward is purely fantasy and not even human. Perhaps women who would love to be Mrs Cullen out there should try and find themselves a nice bat.
