Subject: Anyone here who dislikes 'Twilight'

Posted by: funnybuni
Date: Feb 25 09

I feel as if I'm the only one who thinks that a 108 yr. old falling in love with a 17 yr. old is wrong and perverted. Just because you don't look 108 doesn't mean you don't have 108 years of experience in life.

"I'm a diehard Buffy fan so Twilight upsets me because it is so different from Buffy."

Talk about biased.....

I think it's a bit unrealistic. Vampires that sparkle?

Well, vampires are pretty unrealistic! I felt that the whole sparkling bit and the ability to go out in the day when the sun wasn't shining was just a rather lazy plot device.

I haven't read it and don't intend to either. I didn't really like the film and the characters don't seem very good. It's also really popluar and I take pride in not following the latest trends :)

Vampires and sparkling just don't go together.

Thanks for the heads up.

I stopped reading in the middle of the first book. Anne Rice´s vampires rules.

If the vampires didn't sparkle, would they be more realistic? lmao

Never even entered my radar.

However, if it's something a bunch of pre-teen girls are cooing over, well, it's probably junk, contains a free Soulja Boy CD, and probably worth skipping over. :)

But, hey, that's just my opinion. What do I know? :)

I agree, Schoonie. I don't get what the big deal is about. I like your joke about the Soulja Boy CD, though... ROTFLOL

I've started reading "Twilight" (which I swore I'd never do), and I tried really hard NOT to like it. But I kind of do. :-) Do I deserve a slap on the wrist for such an admission?

I read the first three books, and it was one of the worst pieces of literature I've ever read! I don't know why everyone loves it; it's stupid, a piece of pure nonsense! i don't understand why it has been blown up into such a big thing. It's ridiculous...

okay so i used to love love love twilight, but then after the series was over i went back and read the books as a writer and not as a reader and i realized they were very terribly put together. the books a very hyped up because today's youth enjoys a simple mindless read. i for one enjoy a challenge, and whats it with every new book on the shelves being about vampires

I dunno, I suppose it's a case of what you expect from a book. If you look at these books as literature, they fail, obviously. However, if you look at them as slightly thicker versions of a Harlequin or Mills and Boon, with the added interest of vampires, then they are quite a superior product.

They are Romance/Vampire novels aimed at 13 year olds - of course they're not "good" by any objective standard. However, they fulfill their end of the bargain - when the target audience read them, they are, mostly, swept away by the story. If they were to have literary merit also, well, that would be very nice, but it's not really to be expected.

The series was definitely written for a certain demographic. The teenager obsession I can understand because teens are usually obsessing over one thing or another; it's the adult obsession that I just do not understand. I tried reading the first book and there were so many grammatical and syntactic errors that I couldn't get very far (there's no way that book should have made it past any credible editor).
