I used to collect rocks when I was younger. Now I don't really collect anything. I guess I collect pencils though.

I'm sure dust has been mentioned so I'll move on. As a child I collected guest soaps in interesting shapes and colors. You could get really interesting soaps at high-end hotels. I also had an interesting street collection of things I picked up off the street, much to my mother's dismay.

Now I have records (music), cookbooks and other old books, lots of family jewelry and memorabilia which have become collections. Against my will I'm collecting daily newspapers which come into the house faster than I get rid of them.

Ethnic silver jewelry is my thing. My mom had started it many years ago and it was passed to me after she died. I've been burglarized once and some pieces are gone but thank God, they went for the gold and left me my tarnished, old silver bangles and ankle bracelets.

I collect Harry Potter books in different languages (the ones that I know at least a bit of). Reading them is very useful for enriching the vocabulary.

I used to collect the tabs from soda cans. I still have them, but it's been a while since I last added to it.

I love and collect watches. love mechanicals for the same reasons I like straight razors, they are an old art form that in many ways is superior to what has replaced them. My particular favorite brands are Bulova http://jonsguide.org/best-top-bulova-precisionist-watches-reviews/ and Omegathough the movement on my handwind glycine is something to behold.

I like to collect old watches as well. I wear a 1951 Lord Elgin with a 21 jewel 670 adjusted movement as my everyday watch.

I go through phases of collecting plants in my garden. One year it was roses, and now it's hydrangeas but it happens more by chance than forward planning. Hydrangeas used to be a rather boring plant in my youth. I remember they all had big roundish heads and were either pink or blue but now you can get a wider variety of colours and heads that are varied in shape and colour and ones that change colour over the course of the season.

Here are some interesting collections featured in the 2010 Guinness World Records book:

Paul Pisasale (Australia) has collected 650 different demitasse cups.

Janet Mallernee-Briley (USA) has a collection of 5,779 elephant-related items.

Daniel Evans (UK) has 3,673 different mouse mats.

Jean-Francois Vernetti (Switzerland) has 8,888 different "Do Not Disturb" signs collected from hotels in 189 countries.

Niek Vermeulen (Netherlands) has a collection of 5,468 airline sick bags from 1,065 different airlines.

Donna Decator (USA) has collected 4,930 thimbles.

I suspect these collections have probably grown a lot since 2010, but this is just to give you an idea of the variety of things that some people like to collect.

Compact Discs, mostly blues and classic rock. I have close to 1,000. Also, like wmd, books, books and more books. I have probably around 3,000.

We've had to stop collecting books as there's no room for any more. Our rule now, which we try to stick to, is one in, one out.
