Subject: Broth..the Making Of and Storing

Posted by: 13LuckyLady
Date: Nov 22 16

I've been making my own broth.

Freezing it is the issue...if it lasts that long.

Ice trays are not user friendly.

Ideas needed!

Ziploc and Glad sell inexpensive storage containers that can be frozen. Also, I think one or both of them sell bags that can stand and be filled, and then frozen. Just remember not to fill anything to the top, to allow room for expansion.

*OR* you could run a hose to NY, and I'll take it off your hands :-D

What about one of those inexpensive tupperware-type containers you can get at the grocery store? They'll seal airtight.

Awesome! Thanks, you two!

With the price of broth, making it at home just makes cents....lol

postie, the hose made it as far as New Jersey....sorry!

It was destroyed on the NJ Turnpike!

The horror of it all!

How about sending the hose to Long Island? You can send it underwater and skip the turnpike.

Why don't ice cube trays work for you? That's all I used to use. I just got a horrible vision of what my freezer must have looked and smelled like. I know what the fridge smelled like because I started to clean it out a month after the fire! But the nasty in charge of everything insurance adjuster showed up and told me I was in the way. I later found out the poor guys that had to clean it out didn't mind at all that I was doing it. They thought it was very nice of me to do any of it.

Why did she yell at me? She thought I was throwing things out before she could take pictures of it so I could claim sirloin steaks and caviar among the spoiled food.

It hurts my hands to use the modern ones where you twist it to get the cubes out.

The ones I grew up with...stainless steel with a lever to release the ice.....starting at $20. I suspect pulling on the lever would result in words you cannot say on television (according to Carlin). I am losing the ability to grasp smallish items and have started dropping more and more.

I came to the best place for information....Fun Trivia!

I suspect the bags or containers will be my best bet.

The hose was destroyed on the NJ Turnpike... maybe that explains the delays at Newark Airport :-p

Thanks, everyone! The left side of the freezer is a happy place.....three kinds of broth.

I appreciate the ideas for storage and the encouragement!

You are AWESOME!

Happy it worked out!

It will be lovely to know it's there on snowy days when it's difficult to get to the market.

I use part broth and part water when I make wild rice too.
