In a classification quiz with four baskets to sort the items into, is it all right to have four items per basket, or does it have to be five? Reply #1. Feb 06 24, 4:17 PM |

Neither amount is mandatory. Reply #2. Feb 06 24, 4:31 PM |

And the baskets don't all need to be the same size - but a basket where only 1 item fits is probably not a well-designed quiz. Reply #3. Feb 06 24, 7:36 PM |

It's set up with four baskets, and I wanted to make sure four items for each would be enough. Reply #4. Feb 06 24, 9:28 PM |

A Classification template does not come set up with the boxes - they are determined by your answers, one box for each different answer you use. If you see it set up with four boxes, it is a Mystery Sort template. I think they may require exactly four for each, but have only made one, and don't recall the details. Reply #5. Ah, no, I didn't make myself clear. My quiz, as I envisioned and set it up, has four baskets, it being on the rivers of Great Britain; hence, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We'll have to see - that last may end up being Ireland/Northern Ireland. So I knew from the outset there would be four baskets. My only doubt was whether four items - rivers - per basket would be acceptable or if it needed to be five. Reply #6. Feb 10 24, 6:28 PM |

In that case, the answer is that you need at least two for each category, and it is recommended to keep them pretty even - but if you want ten rivers, that could be 2,2,3,3 or 2,2,2,4, with the former being preferable. Many authors seem to go for 12 (three boxes of four, or four boxes of three) or 16, but it is not required that the boxes all be the same size. Reply #7. Feb 10 24, 7:35 PM |

Just to clarify the Mystery Sort question, they also don't come with the boxes set up, nor do they need to be four in number. I made one with three boxes/baskets, which were created as I entered the answers. Reply #8. Feb 10 24, 7:58 PM |

I've just started writing a label quiz. When I decided to disallow timed game, I've noticed the tick allowing timed game does not disappear. Does this mean there are plans to create a game with timed label quizzes? Do we still have the option to disallow timed game in some exceptional cases (for instance if the correct answers make an acrostichon in the "9 for 10" quizzes, if the quiz hides a pangram or lipogram in each question, or in cryptic quizzes)? I don't really think there is a plan to expand to timed versions for variant quiz formats. It might just be the case that some checkboxes and other small sections are leftover vestiges of Terry converting the quiz templates to the new quiz formats, but not getting around to deleting things that don't actually have any effect on the quizzes themselves. I have a problem with changing a quizzy from a classification back to an 'ordinary' quiz. It says that it can't be saved, and that administrators have been notified. I have tried several times over a number of days but no joy. Any sugestions? Reply #11. Jun 04 25, 1:17 AM |

Have you tried changing to the old quiz editor? I can't remember whether you can change it in there or not, but sometimes just changing to it and back to the new editor gives a stubborn template a kick that works. Reply #12. Jun 04 25, 4:36 AM |

I'll try that again, but yes, I did. I have also tried changing it a different format with no luck. Reply #13. Jun 04 25, 5:20 AM |

I have a classification quiz in progress, so have just experimented. I was able to change it to standard, save it and review it to check that it was in the standard format. I've since changed it back and it all worked as it should. This means that it's likely not a system error, but something specific to you. You could ask an editor in the appropriate category to see if they can change it for you. The other option would be to set up a new template and transfer the details from the existing template to the new one. Reply #14. Jun 04 25, 6:20 AM |

Thanks for all that Rossian. I'll have another go and if I can't make it work, I'll reach out to the appropriate editor. Reply #15. Jun 04 25, 3:09 PM |
