Subject: Private team quiz scoring

Posted by: shipyardbernie

I have many questions from my team members about the scoring system on the team's private quiz tournament. I can't explain it as I have never understood it. Five people played and the first two scored 5 points and the next three scored 3 points. Why is not just 5,4,3,2,1. The way it is now, someone could win the tournament without actually winning a quiz. The time taken to finish the quiz doesn't matter as the first two get 5 points and the next three get 3 points but all can have different times.

Hi Bernie,

I've been playing the Private Tournaments for almost two decades, and currently play seven each day. These tournaments, that I found on various internet chatboards, were my gateway to the rest of FunTrivia.

The Tourneys have always been this way. It's not clear to me, how the scoring is figured. I'm sure it's some sort of mathematical algorithm that made sense to Terry, at the time he set it up, many moons ago. Consistency will win the month, not necessarily multiple wins. And that is true, whether there are three players, or 30.

Since there are no FT rewards for playing these, it's mainly for bragging rights. When giving kudos in the message box, or on your team's board, both the winner, as well as the person with the most wins could be acknowledged.

Just like the games on the main site, the Tourneys have their own little quirks :-)
