Subject: Celebrity Deaths ...

Posted by: callie_ross

Have you ever cried over the death of someone famous? I know I have, silly as it may sound. I'll never forget the day Kurt Cobain died. I heard it on the tv, and just froze and I felt stunned at first. I was shocked and then I cried like a big baby! I am a huge fan of Kurt's, and his music means alot to me, so naturally I was saddened by his death. Also, when George Harrison died, I was pretty torn up. I didn't even know he had been ill, and I loved him so! What celebrity deaths have you cried over? You can list more than one if you would like!

PS - I don't remember crying when I heard that George Harrison had passed, but I couldn't help it when I signed the memorial book at the Beatles museum in Liverpool.

I remember the episode of "The District" in which they buried Lynn Thigpen (who played Ella), who had died suddenly only a few days earlier. Her character was one of my favorites in all of television, and she was a great actress. On the show, the cast payed an extremely fitting tribute to her.

Subject: Summer Wine star Brian Wilde dies
Date: Mar 20 08

Last of the Summer Wine and Porridge actor Brian Wilde has died aged 80.

Wilde played Foggy in the long-running comedy series Last of The Summer Wine and Barraclough in prison sitcom Porridge, alongside Ronnie Barker.

Wilde died in his sleep on Thursday. Last of the Summer Wine creator Roy Clarke said he was "a wonderful actor".

His agent Nick Young said: "He will be sadly missed by colleagues and family alike. He brought a great deal of laughter into many peoples lives.

Wilde's son Andrew told the Press Association news agency his father suffered a fall about seven weeks ago and had not recovered.

Wilde's Last of the Summer Wine co-star Peter Sallis led the tributes, saying: "He was great fun to be with and to work with, so I'm very, very sorry to hear the news."

Wilde, who was born in Lancashire in June 1927, had minor roles in films such as The Jokers (1967) and Carry On Doctor (1968) before taking on the role of ineffectual prison officer Mr Barraclough in Porridge in 1973.

He also appeared in 1970s children's series The Ghosts of Motley Hall and 1980s TV comedy Kit Curran.

Wilde joined Last of the Summer Wine as the pompous ex-army corporal Walter "Foggy" Dewhurst for its third series in 1976.

He left in 1985, but rejoined in 1990 and remained until 1997.

Mr Clarke said: "He was one of my favourite actors. He was absolutely impeccable with every line.

"You could give him all sorts of convoluted speech and he never made a fluff. A wonderful actor and a very nice man."

"He had an enormous warmth to the public when he was off the set.

Actress Dame Thora Hird has died at the age of 91, her agent confirmed on Saturday.

She joined Last of the Summer Wine in 1985, starring as the gossiping Aunt Edie Pegden.

Among the first to pay tribute was BBC TV chat show host Michael Parkinson, who said: "Dame Thora was a wonderful old lady.

I never cried, but when Heath Ledger died, I was really shocked. He was, like, really young.

Richard Widmark dies at 93

US actor Richard Widmark has died at home at the age of 93 after a long illness, his wife has announced.

A memorable psychopath in his 1947 film debut Kiss of Death, he was one of Hollywood's most prolific and durable character actors.

Well, it started with John Kennedy, and the last death I cried over was Steve Irwin. I was saddened by Heath Ledger, but no tears.

River Phoenix and Heath Ledger. I didn't cry but I was so shocked! They were both good actors and left us way too soon.

I watched a movie with Richard Widmark last night called "The Tunnel of Love". I was shocked to discover while watching it that he had just passed away. He was old Hollywood, the best of Hollywood. Besides real talent, he had style, manners, charm and he could have taught new Hollywood how it should be done, with class all the way. While I did not cry, it did affect me. He was something very special and his passing should be mentioned. We truly shall not see his like again. RIP Richard Widmark and Thank You, for the memorable films.

I was thinking of all the movies I've seen with Mr. Heston in the cast. He brought a variety of characters to life.

Another one of the 'when men were men' actors gone. He certainly leaves behind a legacy in the world of film. RIP Mr. Heston...
