This year's tipping comp will be at the same site as last year. A bracket for 2026 has been setup once again at cbssports.com .. for those of us who played last year, you're half-way there, as invite emails were sent last week by csbssports.com to all of last year's participants (using last year's email addresses). The email does not display your reg'd cbs ID.

The scoring system remains unchanged. if you'd like to join the Madness tipping comp but do not have a cbssports ID, there's a link on that page to register. You must have a cbs ID to play in this comp! Please note - you may, but don't have to, use your real name to register (surname, first name); but please pick something for those two fields that looks like your FT username (so that we know who you are).
this also applies to if played last year but can't remember your ID and/or have changed your email address and thus can't retrieve your password (which you've forgotten) .. you will need to re-register.

This year's Madness starts on [b][color:red]Thursday 19th March at 12:00 noon[/color][/b] and the final is on Monday 6th April. The bracket will open for tipping when the field is inserted by cbssports.com, which should happen on Sunday 15th March. However, the last four teams to qualify will not be known until Wednesday (they'll enter the comp as the four #16 seeds) .. btw a #16 seed had never won a game against their #1 seed opponent since the NCAA started the current Madness format in 1985 .. until 2018, when UMBC beat Virginia 74-54 .. and then again in 2023 when FDU beat Purdue 63-58. The [b]#16 seeds[/b] are now 2-158 all-time. The [b]#15 seeds[/b] are 11-149 all-time.

This year's tipping comp is the 24th edition of March Madness! Only one person has retained their title, dg_dave (2022 & 2023) .. dg_dave went on to retain his title again, to achieve a unique MM three-peat (see table in the post below). [b]George95[/b] won gold last year, silver went to [b]gtho4[/b] and [b]Sypher[/b] collected the bronze medal.

N-Bomb was the 1st to win this twice, when he won gold in 2017. The previous 15 winners had all failed .. dg_dave became the 2nd when he won in 2023; and George95 became the 3rd in 2025 and Howie72 the 4th in 2026

The longest time span between gold medals is 19 years, by Howie72..

When dg_dave won it again in 2023 it became the first-ever win by a defending titleholder. We'd waited and waited, for 22 years, to see that feat achieved. Plus, with that win, he became the first to win this three times and then, in the following year, the first to win this four times. That 4th title became the first-ever three-peat in this Madness.

The winner of the 2008 comp, ralzzz, and the winner of the 2015 comp, toocool4u, had held the record for the biggest winning margin (20 points) until 2022, when dg_dave won comfortably, with a winning margin of 29 pts .. in fact, it was a very comfortable win. He'd already won gold on Day 5 as no-one could catch him! The record gap silver-bronze is 18 pts, set in 2005. The biggest gap between the podium and 4th place is 21 pts, set in 2021.

The 2022 comp not only saw the biggest winning margin, it also saw the biggest points difference between 4th and 5th place: 31 pts. The previous record gap 4th to 5th was 10 pts, back in 2004. Unsurprisingly, the 153 pts scored by gtho4 in 2022 is the lowest-ever score for a 5th place finish.

doomed[ won bronze in 2008 the hard way; he failed to pick any of the Final Four. Eleven years later, dg_dave went one better .. he won the 2019 comp without picking any of the Final Four! Howie72 holds the record for the most correct picks with 51/63, achieved in the 2007 comp, and the fewest correct picks for gold was 32/63 by blinkybill in 2006.

In 2006 no-one picked any of the Final Four, not one. In a repeat performance, 17 years later, no-one in the 2023 comp picked any of the Final Four.
