Subject: Free association

As this is a chain game it goes in here. Inspired by the 'Ask me' thread I thought of a true free association thread, where you simply write what you thought of after reading the last entry. No theme whatsoever of course, as it's basically what comes into your head first automatically. I'll start it off.

Free association was a method used by Freud when eliciting memories from his patients. It became refined when he discovered that half of it appeared to be made up so he had to bring in a few more rules, but as a means of communication is still fascinating in its pure version. What does that remind you of, what pops into your mind etc?

I've had phases in my life over the last few years, latest being three days running of mainly unexpected visitors, which believe me are not the usual sort of events nowadays. Add that to the numerous others and something is happening beyond the scientific level. We enter areas of energy where it brings certain experiences that harmonise into being. And once people see it happening to me they tell me it starts happening to them. It spreads, as the frequency pulls everyone in to join it, as in the Celestine Prophecy. Then we realise everything must be connected, and learn to draw these events to us at will. Next.

I think I discovered cinnamon toast at the Coffee Cup in Hampstead, now the last remaining cafe there of the three from my childhood. It is particularly significant to me as I had it virtually every time I've been there since (although mainly due to parking I haven't for ages and must now) as it was so good. It's got me something new doing this already!

Are we explaining our associations? Doesn't that take them out of the realm of the subconscious? Up to you, of course.

With your last post, I'm a bit confused. Do we throw cues to you?

Okay, I see what's going on. I think I'm used to several-word associations rather than longer narratives. All is well, and I'm sorry I've cluttered your thread up. :)

I will elucidate- free association is literally that, everything that is written is completely inspired by what was there before you, not necessarily related but literally free, as in a stream of consciousness which is continued by the next person rather than a single one.

I just clicked to look as yours was the first reply, and as cinnamon toast did actually have an association to me had to add my answer, that was purely a coincidence!

So it's simply a shared stream of consciousness to see what comes out as that's how the system was created.

I remember studying that in ccollege, albeit briefly... Intro to Psychology, I believe--but I come across various topics every time I look up something online, so may have come across it again more recently

Interesting what the mind can connect together

As if I was actually in therapy I could follow Eurovision, Sandie Shaw, Lulu (ie the first things I thought of were the most attractive women- I am that old...) and then on a quite different track Cliff Richard who didn't actually win. But the trick built in means it actually jogs the first things you are made to think of by the last, and in my case, hardly surprisingly, it was women, followed by a bit of nostalgia, two of my favourite subjects. It does work at times!

I know what free association and stream of consciousness mean--I'm in literature, dontcha know? ;) As I said earlier, and from prior experience with this type of game, I thought we might be going after short and spontaneous answers. Sorry, I just misinterpreted. Play on, play on!

If we're communicating, and communicating well, are our misunderstandings really misunderstandings? (Gosh, that question makes absolutely no sense, so why'd I write it down [oh, yeah, it's "free association"})

I had something to add, but...Now, perhaps I'll wait, and see if things clear. ;)
