What annual award is presented to a Major League Baseball player for his outstanding community service? Your answer: Roberto Clemente Even though the plane never got there, his spirit of humanitarianism still remains. He's a hero of mine. Roberto, Jackie, Stan Musial, and Lou Gehrig. Great men who were of great character. Reply #1. Sep 28 12, 7:45 PM |

Indeed - I would add Ted Williams to that list. He fought in both WWII and Korea - an ace fighter pilot. We'll not see his kind ever again. Reply #2. Oct 01 12, 8:16 AM |

I would also add Mike Judge. He created Beavis and Butthead, we should be forever thankful for this. Thank you Mike!!!!!!!!! Reply #4. Oct 13 12, 8:02 PM |

Making the world a better place is something I dream of all the time. I try to make myself and my surrounding areas a better place. Maybe I will be class-president in high school.... Reply #5. Mar 06 14, 6:25 PM |

We can all do something to make a difference, even if we're not famous and don't have a lot of money. I am a big booster of blood and organ donation. Today was our first really nice day in ages, so I drove across town to the Blood Center and gave platelets. It's a long process, but the severe winter weather has resulted in a dangerous shortage of blood and blood products. Platelets are especially needed, since they have a short shelf life. It wasn't much fun sitting there for two hours, but the knowledge that I might be helping to save someone's life made it worthwhile. Reply #6. Mar 06 14, 7:04 PM |

Man, you are so right about people being able to make a difference without necessarily being wealthy or famous. I think this is a very interesting thread and I can't believe it died more than three years ago after only six replies. Well, I am the thread resurrection guy, since "resurrector" is evidently not a word, and I normally try to revive old, dormant threads by clowning around in some way, but not this time. I know she has a ton of money and fame, but I think Oprah Winfrey is pretty amazing with what she has done. Of course, there are people like Jesus Christ, Mother Teresa, Ghandi, but I realize they might be pretty sensitive material in this kind of environment. But murderers? Oh yeah, bring it ON, man! One of my favorite murderers was Wyatt Earp. With the help of other good men willing to take a stand in the name of righteousness, he evidently murdered a lot of real dirtbags who badly needed to be murdered. Mo' murda down, Wyatt, my friend. Mo' murda down. Then, of course, there is Rockin' Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Thank you and good day to you all. Reply #7. Apr 01 17, 4:17 AM |
