This was a great movie in my opinion. The bear attack was so realistic, as was the horse stunt. Leonardo DiCaprio's acting was terrific and Tom Hardy was the ultimate badass. The scenery was gobsmacking and all in all it really deserved the oscars. Anyone else want to comment?

The movie and book were based on the true life of Hugh Glass, Mountain Man. Rough and tough, was he. Another movie of this same topic, was made in the 1970's called "Man in the Wilderness", starring Richard Harris, which I used to show my classes when we were studying that era of U.S, History.

I agree, very good movie! I tend to like survival type films for the most part. That bear attack was absolutely brutal. I don't know how Glass survived that fall from the cliff because the poor horse sure didn't. This movie is full of amazing scenery. I enjoyed watching it. :)

To answer the question above I loved both movies, and loved reading the book, and following the grueling journey of Glass on the maps provided. Glass had first come west on the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
