Hi, Elusive Dream. Who are the authors of your choices? My choices would be "Imperium, Lustrum and Dictator" trilogy by Robert Harris and "An Officer and a Spy" by Robert Harris. And "The Gormenghast Trilogy" by Mervyn Peake. I once saw a TV production of it with Jonathan Rhys Myers as the lead character Titus Groan, but I've not really seen a successful version. It's so odd and in such a gloomy atmosphere and there's not really a coherent plot. You'd have to inject a little more pace than in the books to hold the audience I think. Doesn't sound like a good candidate does it? Reply #1. Nov 28 17, 4:24 AM |

I'd love to see more of Terry Pratchett's works filmed, the few that have been IMHO weren't that successful. Also, if budget, time constraints and censorship allowed, Clive Barker's 'Imajica' would be astounding. Reply #2. Feb 27 18, 8:17 PM |

TudorFan: oh yes, I think "Imajica" has the potential to be an incredible movie, unlike any movie before it. I would love to see "The Jester" by James Patterson. It's a wonderful tale and it has some very exciting moments! Reply #3. Feb 28 18, 9:42 AM |

I'd love for a director and screenwriter to tackle "A Canticle for Liebowitz", by Walter M. Miller. One of my favorite books of all time. I'm surprised no one has done it yet. Especially with the CGI age of film. Of course it's another book that would be hard to make into a film. It would almost be have to made into a trilogy. Reply #4. Feb 28 18, 1:55 PM |

box jaw - great suggestion for "A Canticle for Leibowitz!" I'm a Koontz and King fan: 3 books that are out now that almost read like screenplays are Koontz's new Jane Hawk series: "The Silent Corner" and "The Whispering Room." From King, his "Mr. Mercedes." There are 2 follow-up novels here: "Finders-Keepers," and "End of Watch." Anne Reply #5. Feb 28 18, 8:55 PM |

Memorycat, I think Mr. Mercedes was made into a TV show or a TV movie, just fyi! (I'm not saying there shouldn't be a movie made of it, just letting you know in case you wanted to watch it) Reply #6. Mar 01 18, 10:28 AM |

Thanks, Sky! I believe that you're right. We don't have cable at our house, but I do vaguely seem to remember reading something about "Mr. Mercedes" being made into a movie. Two books that would make terrific films are Carl Hiaasen's "Skinny Dip," and "Sick Puppy." Laughed like a loon over both these books, largely because I got such vivid mental images of the wacky characters Hiaasen dreamed up, and because the story lines of both were just so perfectly meshed with their locales. Besides, both books featured the delightfully demented, (yet lovable) ex-governor of Florida. Also, who could resist seeing two films where the villains come to such bizarre, but richly deserved ends? Reply #7. Mar 10 18, 5:18 AM |

"Mr. Mercedes" was a 10-part TV series that aired on 10-11-17. Possibly scarier than the book, and I thought the book was terrifying. I'd love to tell you what network this was on, but I can only find it right now on Audience On Demand, and that doesn't sound right. I do know Season 2 is coming soon, though. After reading the book, I had no clue there were two more. If you can get access to this on TV, it's worth watching. It was well-made, and definitely terrifying. Reply #8. Mar 10 18, 6:49 PM |

Shogun by James Clavell I know it was very well made into a TV series starring Richard Chamberlain but I think a movie would be great. Reply #9. Dec 17 18, 6:23 AM |

Also 'The Holcroft Covenant' by Robert Ludlum. There was a truly awful attempt at this with Michael (most over rated actor) Caine Reply #10. Jan 17 19, 6:16 AM |

"To Wake the Giant" and "The Frozen Hours", both by Jeff Shaara. The first is concerned with the attack on Pearl Harbor along with the months leading up to it while the latter largely focuses on the US Marines at Chosin Reservoir during Korea. Yeah, I know we've already had movies on the attack on Pearl Harbor, personally the best being "Tora! Tora! Tora!". But how many of them have a main character stationed aboard the USS Arizona during the attack? "To Wake the Giant" does remind me of "Tora! Tora! Tora!" as it does focus a little more on both sides. But through Biggs we not only get a glimpse at life among the enlisted in the Navy during the months leading up to the attack but also a glimpse at the kind of horror men who survived the explosion of he Arizona went through. With "The Frozen Hours" I'm not sure how many movies have focused on that particular part of of the Korean War. I know movies have been set during the war, I just don't know if they've been set during the Chosin campaign. I read most of the book this past winter at a time when the temps here were single digits F and below which put me in a better place to somewhat understand the effects of the temps (I was reading in an unheated bedroom, though unlike the men I at least had plenty of blankets to keep warm with). If made into a movie I'd want both to stick close the source material, and I mean close. Not take and Hollywoodize the stories while playing lip-service to the books. None of this make the movie more exciting and make the main characters out to be the great heroes stuff Hollywood tends to like. No adjusting language used because someone doesn't like how they talked. Show things warts and all. Reply #11. Apr 08 25, 5:40 PM |
