"Just to clarify: My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, etc. - those qualify as pop, not punk."

On my deathbed.

I don't like punk or pop, but I'll go with pop.

And I suppose that people who like all these old punk bands have exceptionally great taste, do they? Even if someone likes MCR, FOB or Blink 182 (Which is punk if you need to know) you still say it is pop. If you have actually heard anything from any of these bands, you would actually have a faint idea in what i'm saying.

LOL at Blink 182 being punk... nappy punk maybe, baby punk maybe, strangled, processed consumer punk a definite. (Don't spit on us - it ruins our make-up).

Punk every time.
You guys are getting confused though. Iggy pop is punk, John Lydon is punk, Joe Strummer is punk, even Nick Cave or Lux Interior are punk. These people have one thing in common, attitude! It's all about the attitude.
Blink182 and MCR are far to compliant to be regarded as having any attitude. And it's not all about age either because Billy Idol was never, ever punk, even though, he had the look, and sometimes even the sound.

Calling Blink 182 punk is like calling Avril Lavigne punk.

Foosyerdoos - spot on! It's all about attitude indeed. Nothing more, nothing less (and thanks for reminding me about Lux - I saw The Cramps play in a hovel of a place in Leeds back in 1980 and they blew my head off). Go Poison Ivy!

And as a quick extra: RIP Lux Interior... a true original and complete nutter. Burn baby Burn!

I also saw the Cramps back in the eighties. It was at the Capitol Theatre in Aberdeen. The Capitol was an old cinema that was also used as a music venue. All the bolted down velour seats took a bit of a battering the night the Cramps played. Oh, happy days!
Do you think Ms Ivy will retire gracefully now, or carry on regardless?

By the way, the best I have ever seen with attitude was definitely Iggy, it was only about 5 years ago at T in the Park, but he still has it in spades!

First off, very cool, foos.

Just thinking about it, comparing Blink-182 to Iggy Pop or the Cramps is like comparing Michael Bolton to Slayer. Laughable at best.

I don't think it's laughable, just a wee bit sad! I believe the main problem is MTV(designed to make money), people have no decent point of reference anymore. They just see what is put in front of them. They don't have to trawl through the music mags anymore, don't have to listen to 10 rubbish live bands before they find a great band. It's all on telly, acceptable musically, just not very exciting or inspiring. All a bit dull really!
I better stop now, cause I am beginning to sound like my Dad.

Yet you are right on the money, foos.

A song that puts in perfectly:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e2ZMMLK4Kw

This song is 20 years old and it is actually even MORE applicable now than it was when it first came out. In an age when you have places like Disneyland founded by a Nazi and corporations dictating what people listen to, the youth is just screwed. In shackles and most of them don't even realize it. Sad.
