Subject: Celebrity Adulation

Is it just me, or is it not slightly worrying the way in which many people look up to the 'celebrity'?

Magazines that offer sneak peeks into the lives of celebrities sell millions. Meeting 'someone famous' is a conversation topic. Autographs, yes just a signature sell for hundreds on eBay. People enter competitions to spend some time with a 'celebrity'.

Most people practically fawn over at least one celebrity, and it isn't healthy.

What do you think?

When I think of how the news media and others literall fall all over celebrities, I do feel sorry for them.

In my opinion, just because someone is famous that does not and should not make their life an open book. They too are without a doubt entitled to the same privacy as the rest of us.

It is not their fault they are blessed with talent and decide to do something with that talent.

A celebrity is just like everyone else...they eat, sleep, go to the bathroom etc., JUST like everyone else....unfortunately, because they are famous, even those functions are looked at in awe.

It is creepy. I enjoy a movie as much as the next person, but onc ethe movie is over, I really dont care one way or the other about the actors involved.

The lengths that people will go to amaze me. The "reporters" are a joke and what's worse is that people actually care about what famous person went to Starbucks that day. They are just people, folks. And while there are certain characters that would make pleasent company, I couldn't care less about the actors.

I totally agree. There is no-one famous who I especially care about meeting - to be honest, I don't really care what goes on in their lives.

I completely agree. Shows like Entertainment Tonight and TMZ disgust me. These programs that try to convince the viewer that Brad Pitt going to a restaurant or Julia Roberts walking her dog is "news" are pathetic. What kind of person decides to spend their life fawning over other people like a lapdog? It's pitiful that just because you sang a song or starred in a movie, paparazzi and interviewers will follow you and harass you and "report" on literally the most inconsequential details of your life - "Top Story! George Clooney went to McDonald's and ordered a Filet O' Fish."

Who CARES??? Get a life and stop obsessing about somebody else's. It's no wonder that I tend to like celebrities that seem to act like regular people, like Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Seth Rogen, etc. "Stars" are no more special than the rest of us and people need to stop treating them like gods.

It's an industry.
And apparently there are enough idiots out there to keep it going.
Was it Charlie Sheen who said that the difference between a stalker and the papparazzi is the camera?
I swear I've never bought a magazine in my life. But I know their names as they are all over the check-out at the supermarket. Parasites, getting in between me and my chewing gum!
I only ever look forward to seeing Celebrities give a papparazzi 'the bash' for invading their privacy. Even worse . . their kid's privacy. Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Jack Nicholson. . I salute you!

Maybe paparazzi is not right and many times over done.
However, stop and think though, these people know, getting into the business, it is part of the whole celebrity status-quo genre. As bad as it is - it can also help propel them to being famous making millions. To me it appears to be like a two edge sword.

I pay no attention to anything "reporters" say about celebrities. What the reporters report is not the truth. Their only purpose is to sell papers and spread rumors. Why waste my time?

Plus, celebrities are entitled to privacy. I am doing what I can by ignoring what is said and refusing to read what is written.

Unfortunately, more people feel other wise and that is why the paparazzi exist.

I can't believe that there are some paparrazi that do nothing at all with their lives except get paid to camp out around some celebrities' homes like Britney Spears and just stalk them.

'If you can't say anything nice, then come sit by me'

and

'Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story'

is how I like to sum up all the tabloid magazines.

I find it amusing to sit and read these magazines (I do refuse to pay for them though - I read them at work) and read the contradicting stories that are (supposedly) 'Breaking News'.

I'm far more interested in the humanitarian pursuits of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt than how many babies she is currently carrying, where they are going to be born, and which designer made the dress or suit that one or the other is wearing.

What does Tom Cruise do, other than jump on couches and preach Scientology? What is Katie Holmes' contribution to the planet other than keeping Tom Cruise off the singles scene (could be considered a humanitarian effort - maybe)?
What has Eva Longoria done for fellow man since bringing pizza to striking script writers (who keep her in a job by writing drivel for Desperate Housewives, so it could be considered mildy selfish to feed them to get better lines or share of the show)?

Yes, I appreciate that these people talent. I view Brad and Ange movies because I think they're talented people. Do I care what shoes Ms Jolie is wearing when she hits the red carpet to promote a movie? Not a jot. Do I care that she champions the needy by using her fame (and therefore talent in a roundabout way) to promote their cause? Absolutely. She has more than they have, at least she gives back.

The likes of Britney, Posh, TomKat, and all the other bimbos, himbos, and wannabes out there are simply not interesting. At least not to me. I have my own life. Get your own.

I am also sick and tired of the media giving some of these "stars" god-like status. They are as human as I am, therefore having the same bodily functions.
One 'Celebrity' that just burns my bum is Tom Cruise.
I had to give Nicole Kidman her kudos...when after the divorce her comment was, "Now I can high heels again"....
Kudos Nicole!

IS Tom Cruise human? Doesn't Scientology belive that some earthlings are aliens in human form (or something similar)?

I'm not sure about the 'god' thing in reference to Tom Cruise's status, but I'd vote for alien. His world is definitely alien to mine!

ecnalubma,I'm with you. I'm too busy with my own life to give a tinker's toss about which celeb eats at McDonald's or which designer is dressing whom. Sad thing is, Ben Mulroney, son of one of our former Prime Ministers, actually hosts one of those entertainment news (their word, not mine) shows for a Canadian network.

I avoid all those shows, magazines, and so on. I get sick and tired of hearing who did what at where or whatever.

I do wonder sometimes about people who look up to celebrities. But then I see myself looking at them and wanting to look that way. It all starts with self-esteem. Now that I have some, I'm starting to forget about what the celebrities are doing and what they have. And I have to remember, they don't wake up looking like that. They have to work on it too.
