Harry Potter for sure. Twilight just makes me groan. Reply #81. Apr 04 13, 3:25 AM |

I was afraid to read children's literature for fear of hurting my adult pride but found Harry Potter to be much more adult than expected. There is a lot of mythology references and detailed characters and imagery. Twilight on the other hand is reversed, I thought I going to read a teen novel but it felt more like reading a grade school romance novel. It was very basic and unimaginative as she basically stole Romeo and Juliet with an Anne Rice old horror movie twist. Reply #82. Apr 20 13, 1:01 PM |

CHARACTERS HP by far takes the cake here. The characters are all so likeable (or so easy to love to hate), and all have very real flaws and admirable qualities. Harry, for example, is incredibly brave and has many admirable qualities. However, he can also be quite manipulative, angry and even down-right rude at times. He also doesn't seem to mind bending the rules at all. This makes the book a bit more believable and helps get across some morals. Twilight, on the other hand... The characters are all so dull and one-dimensional. Bella, the main character, just seems to moan and mope about everything and do little in between. "Ugh, it is snowing." "Ugh, so lonely". Give me a break! Edward is just the absolute perfect male with no real flaws except that he is a vampire (which is attractive, apparently, so no flaw there). PLOT AND WRITING HP wins here again. The Harry Potter books have a well developed plot which progresses and develops as it goes along. The books are thick, but everything in them are necessary (generally). The writing is also very well done, giving enough time for character and plot development while still progressing at a good pace and still being entertaining. The Twilight books are slow, drag horribly and could be told in half the pages it takes to tell them. They are told through the eyes of a boring teenage girl who always finds something to complain about, be it snow or that the cute boy didn't smile back at her. The storyline is recycled from hundreds of other stories, but with vampires and werewolves thrown in (just because). And, while going with the books, the movies progress slowly as well (half of the movie is made up of awkward staring). MORALS And again, HP wins here. HP teaches morals like the value of friendship, love, bravery, humility, patience, doing good unto others and more. Twilight has pretty much no morals whatsoever, except that a girl can only be happy when she has a man. Oh, and also, apparently watching your crush sleep at night without her knowing is cute, not creepy. And it is a hundred year old vampire dating a seventeen year old. And vampires sparkle. (These are all just my opinions, nothing more. Based on the books, not the movies.) Reply #83. May 02 13, 6:12 AM |
