My grandmother told me quite a few years ago that my grandfather was very distantly related in some way to the lady who played the part of Katherine Chancellor on The Young and the Restless. I believe that lady has passed away and it wasn't like she was ever part of my family in a physical sense, but that is the closest thing to a famous person being part of my family that I know of.

I know this isn't part of the question, but I can't help including this. One time I got to shake hands with Ken Curtis, the guy who played Festus on Gunsmoke. It was at a rodeo in Fort Smith, Arkansas and I was seven or eight years old. I'll never forget that as long as I live! :-)

I've just found out that my great great grandfather's brother was married to the sister of Michael Davitt, the Irish politician who founded the 'Irish National Land League' and was a close ally of Charles Stuart Parnell, until Parnell's downfall. Davitt is well enough known to have a wikipedia page all to himself. Does that count?

Scratch that post above. I think 2 names were mixed up (being the same name). The 2 referenced were probably cousins, but there's no definitive proof.

My Uncle, many years back, traced our family tree......got back to French Revolution, where, as records got burnt, he stopped, as impossible to go back further. (we were French then)

Point is, not a single related person emerged at any time, of even the remotest "fame"..........so from 1789 (at least), until current, we have always been undistinguished "pedigree peasants".

C30. I'd just assumed our family were peasant farmers back as far as you could go, though from the history of the name it seems there is some Norman connection way back, and we now think the Michael Davitt thing is very likely since we've had some other oral history of the connection from a separate source. I don't think it would have mattered to me anyway but if someone famous has a connection with the family that often brings in much more information where before, records were missing or scarce. Irish records going back before 1864 were destroyed in a fire in the civil war.

Mix..........my mother's maiden name was Peake which I believe to be Viking origin.........which figures being from East Anglia which was overrun by Vikings, so that side of family was always involved in agriculture (Suffolk). Dad's side came from "Other side of River Stour", Essex.

The mystery/crime writer Anthony Berkeley Cox (A.B. Cox) was my father's cousin. Under the pseudonym Francis Iles, Cox wrote what is often considered the quintessential murder mystery 'Malice Aforethought', and his 1932 novel, 'Before the Fact', also written under the name Francis Iles, was filmed as 'Suspicion' starring Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

From my dad's side of the family, I am very, very, very, very distantly related to Sylvester Stallone.

I'm not related, but my mother's family was friends with Roy Rodgers. Also, my next-door neighbor for many years was Ringo Starr's cousin. ;)
