My favorite is an old one, "Sole Survivor". Reply #1. Aug 30 09, 8:02 PM |

I guess "Intensity" is my all time favorite, but I also love the "Odd Thomas" series. I've read most of his books, but haven't got to the "Frankenstein" stuff yet. Reply #2. Aug 30 09, 8:25 PM |

I quite liked his older stuff; Lightning, Strangers and Watchers being books I enjoyed. I haven't really enjoyed his more recent books, finding them a bit rambling and a tad predictable. It could just be that I'm older and my tastes are changing though :) Reply #3. Sep 02 09, 5:29 AM |

I used to enjoy them but after a while I realised that they pretty much followed a formula. Labrador/retriever? Central character with abusive childhood? Fighting against seemingly unstoppable force? Yup, must be Koontz! Having said that, 'Watchers' and 'Whispers' were very good books. I couldn't put 'Watchers' down once I'd started. Reply #5. Sep 02 09, 6:51 AM |

Velocity was the first Koontz book I read, and it got me hooked. False Memory is my favorite. I just picked up the 3rd Frankenstein book but I'll have to go back and read the first 2 in the series to get reaquainted. Reply #6. Sep 02 09, 10:28 AM |

Sadly, he has gotten worse. I enjoyed him in the 80s & 90s. Now he has no new original concept or idea. And he publishes 3 or 4 books a year now. Who is he trying to compete with? Or is he in a hole of debt. Reply #7. Dec 30 09, 11:43 PM |

There is no competition. Most authors I read, don't write fast enough. I wait, and wait for more. Koontz is on my top 5 list. Reply #8. Dec 31 09, 12:33 AM |

I enjoy reading his books, two of my favourites are Hideaway and Watchers. Watchers is the only Koontz book that has made me cry. I cried for both Einstein (when I thought he was dead) and the evil monster that was after him. Reply #9. Feb 23 10, 11:55 PM |

Koontz is one of my favorites. I especially liked "Strangers", "Watchers", "Phantoms", and "False Memory". Reply #10. Oct 12 10, 3:28 PM |

His more recent books haven't been as good as his older ones, in my opinion. I did like "From the Corner of His Eye" and "One Door Away From Heaven" though. Reply #11. Oct 16 10, 8:20 AM |

I can normally take or leave, but "Sole Survivor" was brilliant. Reply #12. Oct 16 10, 1:42 PM |

I agree with H0lyAerith, Koontz's earlier works were better than what he's putting out now. The first one I read from Koontz was "Whispers", which was very good IMO. Right now I'm trying to read "One Door Away From Heaven", but I'm having a tough time of it. Reply #13. Oct 17 10, 7:52 AM |

I'm re-reading some Koontz now: the psuedo-duology of "Fear Nothing" and "Seize the Night". Reply #14. Oct 24 10, 12:27 PM |

I do like reading Mr. Koontz's books very much! My favorite story by him is "Sole Survivor". Brilliant, very suspenseful book. Keeps you guessing right up to the end! I also love his "Odd Thomas" series. Stephen King is another favorite of mine! :) Reply #15. Oct 24 10, 1:09 PM |

I read several Koontz books years ago and I really enjoyed them. I know one was "Phantoms", one was "Watchers" and I think another was called "The Bad Place", if memory serves me. Reply #17. Nov 01 10, 12:33 PM |

Used to love Koontz, but now totally predictable. I like a happy ending as much as the next person - but not everyone HAS to survive AND live happily ever after with him telling us every detail. :) But having said all that I will buy his next books as I have them all and it would be a shame to stop my collection. Not sure if I'll read it though. Reply #18. Nov 04 10, 11:59 AM |

His early works were very good, groundbreaking and difficult to put down, but his recent work seems derivatived and hackneyed, it's almost like he's parodying himself. Still better than most of the genre though. Reply #19. Nov 07 10, 6:43 AM |

I haven't read much of his stuff, a couple of the Odd Thomas books because my daughter liked them. Because of this thread, I just read "The Watchers", and, I dunno. I had a nice time, loved the dog, but... It was too cosy for me, I guess; I like a bit more edge. If there isn't anything else to read, I'd read another of his books - it wasn't horrible. Just not to my taste. Reply #20. Nov 19 10, 9:26 PM |
