Subject: A good reason for not making your bed!

Whoopee!

Dust mites like to be warm and moist, but leaving your bed unmade allows it to cool down and dry off. I think we like that.

It isn't news - I had a disagreement about it ten years ago with my control-freak cleanliness-is-next-to-godliness cousin, who was trying to convince my son that terrible things would happen if he didn't make his bed within ten seconds of getting out of it, and she was not pleased - but I reckon it's worth repeating.

Who can make the bed when there are cats still in it who don't know the meaning of having to get up in the morning? =^..^=

I've always wondered what the point of making the bed was when it would just be unmade again anyway. I sometimes make it up (if it's apartmnt inspection day), but for the most part I don't bother. My mom constantly asks me, "So you don't make your bed anymore--is it against your religion or something?" Now I have a valid excuse to give her!

Following that argument to a logical conclusion, you could also say:
1. Why wash or shower when you are only going to get dirty again.
2. Why iron clothes when they will crease with wear.
3.Why do your hair, it's going to get messy anyway.

One phrase I hate is 'Clean freak' as if its freaky to be clean. Lazy, dirty people will always make excuses not to do something. Dust mites are tiny and couldn't care if a bed was made or not. I am human and I do care.

Thanks for this thread. It gave me a smile, not to mention a valid reason not to make my bed.

Another good reason for not making your bed every day:

"Science has found that a messy bed might actually be better for your health.
That's because dust mites - the little microscopic critters that trigger asthma and allergies in some people - thrive in the humid, warm conditions of a neatly made bed, but dry out when the blankets are left thrown off."

That was from Science Alert, September 2015.

We always told our children that if you didn’t make your beds that it was easier for spiders to crawl under the blankets and make their nests. This seemed to stop all the bed making arguments!

Good reason: I am 41, I don’t want to, I live alone and no one is getting hurt.

My allergist gave me a list of things to do to my home environment in order to control my allergies, and NOT making the bed right away was one of them.
