Subject: Knockout draws (ties)

Posted by: Konfuzed
Date: Mar 03 10

Today my opponent and myself both scored the same amount of points. I am the one who has advanced to the next round. Does anyone know how these ties are decided?

The person listed higher on the bracket gets the win.

I think it's the person who plays first.

Ties are broken by the player who is listed first. In this case you where list first then your opponent.

I'm pretty sure that it is the first person to play who goes through to the next round.

That's unanimous then!

It tells you on the page for your tournament, where that week's players are shown:

"Ties go to the player listed first."

Listed first, *not* who plays first.

Thanks very much, reading the small print has never been my forte.

Yes, in this particular game, it is who is listed first. Other games, it is who plays first, but since this is a daily, it is unfair to have those who play first win, certain parts of the world have a clear advantange.... So it is whoever happens to be randomly picked to be listed first. :-)

It would be great if this could be changed to allow the person with fewer knockout points to advance (and use position only when both have equal pts) - for the underdog to pull equal is a win in my eye.

But then, that would probably be 100 times more effort than a cute solution for an extremely rare incident is worth :)

Not so rare as you might think. I came out on the short end in this situation once :)

I've been on both side of this issue, but the funny thing was when I lost because of I was the second in the bracket, my opponent was more upset about me losing than I was.

On a knockout game, we tied and I was on the lower bracket, so I lost, but I knew that I would be playing again. I always sign up on Mondays, unless I'm going out of town!

I've proposed a 'non-winners bracket' to keep players a little more interested through the week. Only non-winners from Round 1 would play in it for simplicity, and so that it wouldn't require more days than the winners bracket to play. Half-points could be awarded in the non-winners bracket, if there was a concern about 'differently earned' KO points, but I don't think that difference is necessary. The Finals winner in the lower bracket probably wouldn't get a bonus KO point, I suppose.

I couldn't use the L-word (non-winners) here, evidently.

Happy KO Trivia!

Enjoy! Its my fav game on FT, but sometimes a long time between wins.
