LEG #4, CLUE #4 -- ?

Route Info

FunTrivia is a massive place with many, many games and challenges. For this task, you'll need to take on only one of them by creating a quiz with a badge/badgelet/game title as your quiz title. You may choose any one of the following titles-- there are twenty-- but only one quiz can go online for each title, so you'll have to choose wisely and act fast! If someone places another title online before you, you'll need to try again! Once again, you may place this quiz into any category, but keep in mind that some categories will be busier than others and respective guidelines must be adhered to.

The possible titles are as follows: Word Wizard, Knockout, The Crystal Ball, Piece of Cake, Mind Melt, Gold Madness, Quiziversity, Atomic Brain, Oh, the Humanities!, Team Player, The Monster Quiz, Pot of Gold, Just a Minute, Mission Impossible, Fortune Teller, Temporal Rift, A Space Odyssey, Speed Demon, Word Alchemy, Smartest of the Smart.

Only four categories are off-limits: Animals, Brain Teasers, Sci/Tech, and Sports.

--------------

In another surprise, open task, teams were required to choose any category on the site (save the restricted four) and write a quiz using a particular title associated with FunTrivia's games and badge(lets). The other catch? Teams wouldn't know if others had already submitted the title they had selected, so they needed to work fast to get their quizzes online. While some teams breezed through comfortable categories, some fell behind, opting for original quizzes with longer waits.

Pit Stop

Yowza! With so much going on in the race, it's amazing (there's that word!) that you've pulled through to reach the fourth Pit Stop. Can you believe how far you've come? You've touched on at least five different categories (probably more), partaken in some of the Lounge's most important challenges, and most likely written a quiz on Bhutan, Italians, or hats!

Hum yourselves a merry tune, take a rest, and relax before Leg 5. You're coming up to the homestretch! There are only two legs left, but you're really going to need to hustle!

    LEG #5, CLUE #1 -- World -> World Sites or Video Games -> ?

    Detour

A Detour is a choice between two different tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for some teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some options may also facilitate speedier or more creative results.
Only one of these quizzes needs to be completed.

Real World - Submit a quiz in the World category, specifically the World Sites subcategory. Your quiz may visit any sites you wish, but you will need to ensure that at least two are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Your quiz must be ten questions in length. This task should be a basic one, but additional requirements for questions may prove to make an original quiz more difficult to manage.

Virtual World - Submit a quiz in the Video Games category, in any subcategory, about settings or landmarks in virtual worlds. This can be about one specific game or any mixture of games. Your quiz must be ten questions in length. This task will likely be a straightforward one for gamers, but for those uninterested in this niche category, it may prove to be too far out of this world.

CAUTION: U-Turn ahead! A U-Turn allows a team to select any other team to return to the upcoming Detour to complete the option they neglected to choose. If that team has already passed by the U-Turn, they are not affected by it.

    --------------

Teams begun the fifth leg of the race coming face to face with the possibility of what may have been their greatest fear: Video Games. For those looking to jet ahead, Video Games may have been the best offer for those who had knowledge in this niche area. Other teams looking to play it safe made their way to World Sites with a few additional requirements. Nonetheless, teams continued onwards, unsure about what would come next...except that U-Turn.

    LEG #5, CLUE #2

    U-Turn

You have arrived at the U-TURN.

If you choose, you may force another team to complete the other side of the Detour that they did not originally choose, thus expanding the breadth of information added to the site. If that team has already passed, the U-Turn will be ineffective.

One teams may choose to use this U-Turn and a team may only use it once. If a team is U-Turned, all teams passing by will know who has been selected and who did the deed.

    First come, first serve.

    --------------

Teams quickly came upon the race's second U-Turn, but only one team would be able to make a choice. All Puns Intended, who arrived earliest, were unable to select their first choice, CLAP-21, having missed their selection by no less than two minutes. As a result, they selected the next threat down the line, ICBS, who needed to jump into Video Games for their challenge.

All Puns Intended U-Turned ICBS (Intercontinental Ballistic Sheep).

    LEG #5, CLUE #3 -- World -> Languages

    Route Info

Did you choose World or Video Games? Well, the choice is being made for you this time-- remain in the World category for your next clue. For this task, you'll need to demonstrate your worldliness by writing a quiz in the Languages category. You may choose any language or mixture of languages you wish...just make sure it's not a quiz about international greetings.

Your quiz must be ten questions in length and, as usual, one or more members of your team can complete it. What are you waiting for? Bon chance!

    --------------

The first major hurdle of the fifth leg (for some teams), a quiz in the Language category proved to be difficult for some teams. While some would consider Language to be a niche category, our authors handled their varied topics with tact. One team, the recently U-Turned ICBS, won the Editor's Choice (the second of the race) for their submission!

    LEG #5, CLUE #4 -- Humanities -> English

    Road Block

A Road Block is a task that only one member of the team can complete. Before you receive your next clue, please choose the team member who you would consider the Most Eloquent Speaker.

    --------------

The selected team member received the following:

The world is inherently tied to the structures and confines of language. With that in mind, make your way on foot to the Humanities category. While many can't grasp the intricacies of language, the most eloquent speaker has been chosen. They will need to write a quiz in the English section-- you may choose any category you wish to complete this task. The selected racer can take help, but those who were not selected may not write the questions or info; they may only provide suggestions.

    --------------

For this third Road Block task, teams shifted from a foreign language task into a task about a language which is not only closer-to-home, but also intricate. The one selected member needed to shift into a completely new category, Humanities, specifically English. This allowed racers to test their mettle in their native tongues. While a number of teams chose themes attributed to their team names (eg. Winds, Sheep, etc.), some inadvertently chose members with more experience in the category.

LEG #5, CLUE #5 -- Literature -> Mixed Literature or Literature By Region

    Route Info

That's enough of the real world for now. It's time to take a quick trip into the fictional world of Literature. This category contains thousands of quizzes across hundreds of authors from all around the world. There may be no category quite like it; the variation in books, authors, and genres is staggering, and quite simply, a complete collection would never be attainable.

Your next quiz can be created in either Mixed Literature or Literature By Region. You will need to, however, ensure that you use an Author's Challenge title. All team members may collaborate on the effort, but only one may submit.

    --------------

Speeding along to yet another category in their fifth leg of the race, teams needed to use an Author's Challenge title for a Literature quiz. With relatively broad expectations teams needed to focus their submissions to get them into the queue fast. The submissions resulted in a number of position changes as well as one Editor's Choice selection, the third of the race, for a very creative submission.

    LEG #5, CLUE #6

    Pit Stop

Alas! A curtain call on a leg of certain arts and humanities! This is the fifth Pit Stop in your FunTrivia Amazing Race. You'd better not settle in. The sixth and final leg is imminent!

In fact...the timer has already begun to count down! The first clue for Leg 6 will be handed out exactly 18 hours from when the leading team's Literature quiz was placed online.

This means that clues will be handed out at 5:30pm FST! February 22nd!

It pays to stay ahead! Some of you will not be receiving a break. There will be no additional time credits for leading teams. All teams still completing Leg 5 at the designated time will not receive the clue until they have complete their Literature quiz.

Keep your eyes on the prize-- you're almost there!

    LEG #6, CLUE #1 -- General -> Thematic Fun

    Route Info

It's time to begin the home stretch. This final leg of the race is going to be a difficult one. For this leg, you may not use quiz templates created before the release of your clue-- all quizzes must be from scratch.

Pack your bags; it's time to go to the General category-- one of the most-played sections of the site and perhaps the most obvious epitome of 'trivia'. So, when in Rome...

In 2009, Terry introduced the Author's Lounge and the Author's Challenges to motivate authorship on the site. In the first six months of this project, the General category more than doubled its submissions.

For this task, you'll need to create a quiz in Thematic Fun (10 questions). The quiz must be an Author's Challenge title, just like the first Lounge patrons did it.

    --------------

While some teams were allowed a reprieve heading into the sixth and final leg of the race, others were told to keep the pace and head directly into new clues sending them to General. For this task, teams simply needed to take on one of the site's most-played and most popular categories, Thematic Fun, in which they had to master an art brought back to the forefront by the Author's Lounge. While initial correction notices held up some teams, others forged ahead.

LEG #6, CLUE #2 -- General -> Alphabetics or General -> By the Numbers

    Detour

A Detour is a choice between two different tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for some teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some options may also facilitate speedier or more creative results.
Only one of these quizzes needs to be completed.
In this Detour, you'll be able to write in some of the most popular categories in General.

Letters - Create a quiz in the Alphabetics section of General. The letter you choose must begin the submitting teammate's username.

Numbers - Create a quiz in the By the Numbers section of General. If you choose to write a quiz about only one number, it can not be a number that already has a quiz. In other words, if you choose 33, there can not be a '33' quiz already online.

    --------------

Continuing through the General category, teams needed to partake in one of two categories with distinct structural requirements. Most chose 'Letters', opting to create quizzes in the 'Alphabetics' category with more freedom in terms of subject matter. Nonetheless, the final Detour of the race was approached with gusto and teams made their way onward to a new category.

LEG #6, CLUE #3 -- For Children -> Our World For Kids

    Route Info

Before we take our trip to the finish line, you'll need to stop off in For Children for a little memory game. Remember the very first quiz your team wrote in Geography? It was in the 'Where On Earth?' category.

One of the great things about FunTrivia is its ability to appeal to a global audience; even kids can join in the fun.

Before we can look back around to where we started, it's time to do one for the kids. One member of the team will need to create a quiz in FC's Topics for Kids category, specifically Our World For Kids based on your very first Geography submission from the first leg of the race. Remember-- you're writing it for kids!

    --------------

The homestretch commenced with task three, and what would an 'Amazing Race' be without a revisiting of tasks past? For this task, teams needed to look back to their very first submission in Geography and put a twist on their quiz to frame it for a younger audience. This brief stop-off in For Children would ground players back into the world of Geography in preparation for their impending final task.

    LEG #6, CLUE #4 -- Geography

    Route Info

Make your way back to the starting destination: Geography. It's time to work together to create your final quiz for the race.
You may choose any subcategory of Geography.
You may use any number of questions.
The title of the quiz must include the word Amazing.
Please make sure to abide very carefully by category guidelines; your quiz should not be a series of completely random locations; there should be a theme of sorts.

The finish line is in sight! Go! Go! Go!

    --------------

And then it came to a final amazing task. Teams returned to the starting point of their journey, the Geography category, for a free-for-all clue sending them wherever they felt necessary. In a final sprint to the finish, the first place team submitted their quiz a meager two minutes before the second placers to secure the lead spot at the finish line. Finally, after a total twenty-two quizzes (and in some cases, more) crossing through a possible ten categories, teams completed the first-ever Amazing Trivia Race!
