The April Book is The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. From the back cover: "The year is 1327. The place is a wealthy Franciscan abbey. And the crimes committed here are beyond the wildest imaginings. It will be the task of English Brother William of Baskerville to decipher secret symbols and dig into the eerie labyrinth of abbey life to unravel the mystery. His tools: logic, intelligence, wit, and a ferocious curiosity." Reply #1. Mar 30 12, 8:49 AM |

I've never read the book, but I saw the film years ago. I think Sean Connery and a very young Christian Slater were in it. Reply #2. Mar 30 12, 4:58 PM |

Book was much better than the film. As always with the film of the book a lot of the psychology of the characters was missing, and that is quite important in the whole plot here. You're right about it being Sean Connery by the way. Reply #3. Mar 30 12, 6:12 PM |

Hi, Waldmaus. Will you be able to join us for the read? I'm just like you, not read the book but also saw the movie years ago--watched it for Sean Connery, lol. Fortunately, as usually happens with me, I really don't remember much about it and have no idea of the resolution so the book will be fresh for me. Reply #4. Mar 30 12, 7:37 PM |

Just started to reread it (putting off "The Swan Thieves" and the new Inspector Wexford). I've never *signed up* to the forums, so when I learn how to do it, I'll join you! Reply #7. Apr 02 12, 7:08 AM |
