Subject: Miss World Contest

The powers that be have banned bikinis from the Miss World Contest, because it is being held in Indonesia, a predominately Muslim country. Do you agree with this decision? I think it's an outrage!

And just for the record, I think beauty contests are pathetic. Any woman who wants to win first prize for being nice looking, and with the ability to juggle tomatoes or whatever, has the brains of a gnat.

It can go to Mars as far as I'm concerned.

I'm more concerned about the 2022 FIFA World Cup (soccer to those who must call it that) being in Qatar which is a country far too hot for running around fast for 90 minutes. I only hope they have air conditioned stadia (or stadiums) but that may feel weird to players too.

Since we're on a sexist subject I feel empowered to make a sexist comment. When I was a teenager I used to go to football (soccer) matches and often we'd find ourselves on the sides of the ground almost at eye level with the touchline. That's when you really notice how extraordinarily muscular football players thighs are. Of course in those times they used to wear very short shorts. I do prefer the longer shorts now though. They look more elegant and sophisticated.

Not KFC. I like that less. Footballer's thighs don't look as muscular when they are standing still. It's when they are in action that you notice them, especially when they are thundering towards you at eye level.
It doesn't look the same when you are high up in the stands, but I think lots of people might like extraordinarily muscular thighs since so many sports produce them and since body building seems to be a popular sport. I would think body building competitions are the male equivalent of Miss World competitions.

Oh my stars, they're worse! They look so gross when they do that thing where they make all their muscles and sinews bulge out.

Each to their own though.

Lol, Ray Barone tried to do that in one of the "Everybody Loves Raymond" series once. It was such a funny show.

Not a show I'm familiar with. One of my downfalls in funtrivia quizzes.

Mine is rock music. I know the songs a fair bit, but hardly ever know the singers :(

I'm all for banning beauty pageants not only bikinis. Judging a person's worth based on her looks and a demonstration of some talent or other (not sure how baton-twirling became defined as a talent) and a short, breathless speech about the importance of world peace strikes me as sexist in the extreme.

Lol, yes, as in "Miss Congeniality".

People shouldn't be judged on their externals, but on their hearts, souls, compassion and humanity.

I saw an advertisement on telly once that used a girl in skimpy shorts, a crop top looking thing - and high heels - to sell tractors. There she was trying to look as though she knew what she was doing, sitting up on the tractor seat, seductively assuring us of its worth.

My parents were farmers, along with piles of uncles and aunts and cousins. I burst out laughing imagining their reaction to it. The high heels really finished me off completely.

Creedy, any farm I've been on (and I'm talking dairy farms, sheep farms, cattle ranches, grain growing operations, hog farms, small holdings, and more) all necessitated the wearing of wellies.
