Though it has been thirty years since I've been back in the States, I think often about Terry. He gave a lot of people a great deal of pleasure. Hard to believe he's gone. RIP dear Terry. Reply #1. Jan 31 16, 12:32 PM |

My dad, a captain in the U.S. Navy at the time, was stationed in England from June 1982 through June 1985. I discovered Radio 2 and with it Terry shortly after we arrived and then listened to him every weekday morning until the day he left his show just a couple weeks before we left England. I just loved him. Do you remember Raising the Raleigh? Can't remember what pond it was being raised from, but that was a running gag - one of many. He called Barry Manilow Mandy Bandy Legs. That bugged me at the time, being a great fan of Barry's but really it was funny. And he called Julio Iglesias Julie Church. Always enjoyed the moments he spent with Jimmy Young during the handoff from his show to Jimmy's. Mum called them the Sunshine Boys. Started a person's day off right, they did. Terry wasn't always funny though. I remember once on his television show he was interviewing some politician of the day, don't remember who it was. The lousy, rotten, expletive deleted rat called Terry some terrible name, something about being straight out of the Irish bog. Terry didn't lose his cool. Carried on, the consummate gentleman. And of course his behavior just underlined what a lousy rat the politician was. Terry made quite an impression on me. Can't believe he's gone. Reply #2. Jan 31 16, 1:41 PM |

Someone who could make me giggle helplessly before I'd had my first cup of coffee, in fact the only person who's ever done that! As the Rambler says, so many this month and all such a shock. Although Terry was 77, I didn't think of him as being that age. RIP. Reply #3. Jan 31 16, 3:22 PM |

RIP, Tel. You were supposed to last for ever. (And you were a lot funnier and clever than I realised when you were new!) Reply #5. Jan 31 16, 6:32 PM |

PS For me, he shone when he was taking the mickey out of the Eurovision Song Contest - an institution that didn't deserve to have the tiniest scrap of mickey left in it. . Reply #6. Jan 31 16, 6:36 PM |

Oh how I agree with you Lesley, The Eurovision Song Contest will never be the same without him. His sardonic commentary was the reason I watched it, I won't bother anymore. Reply #7. Jun 29 16, 8:42 PM |

I didn't know who Terry Wogan was until this post on his unfortunate passing. Very interesting and entertaining man. I did a little research on him and viewed a few YouTube vids. I don't want to deflect any thoughts on his passing but I was fascinated by some interviews he conducted with David Icke. Who is this man? Erratic seems to be how I sum him up. Reply #8. David Icke was signed by Coventry City as a goalkeeper and played mostly in the lower divisions until rheumatoid arthritis forced him to give up the game aged 21. He became a broadcaster but is now best known for his eccentric views on society. He claims that the British royal family are really reptilians in disguise. I stopped taking any notice after that little gem. Reply #9. Jul 01 16, 7:29 PM |

Compared to many so called presenters and DJs today, Terry was incredible, he had wit and personality. Reply #10. Feb 06 19, 6:34 AM |
