Subject: New Star Trek Series!

Posted by: Creedy
Date: Sep 08 17

A new Star Trek series, called "Star Trek: Discovery" is due to begin on September 24, 2017.

Yes! Yes! Yes! At long last! It's been a long time between drinks. I'm packing to go on board as we speak.

Set ten years before the original Star Trek series that featured Captain Kirk and Mr Spock, there's a couple of surprising characters to be introduced into this new series. You'll just have to wait and see :)

OR he could be in another dimension even, or also sucked into the Delta quadrant.

Hopefully they'll bring Wesley back as well. He's grown up now of course - looks so much better than that scrawny kid in his high waisted uniform. He looks good and is very funny whenever he appears in "Big Bang Theory". I like his nastier side.

And Worf too. He made me laugh like crazy whenever he felt insulted.

Oh you're welcome Creedy. He said he had been watching some Generation episodes, some of which he hadn't seen before, there was a little laughter I think. Anyway visiting his past in that way seemed to give him some clarity, and oh how amazing is that rare and focused clarity!

Well whatever comes of this, whatever sci-fi angle they use will be interesting to see. Maybe he will be a traveling ambassador of sorts, who knows, but it's fun to speculate.:)

Make it so!

I don't really like stepping back old ground but of course I would still like to see him. Patrick Stewart is not just Captain Picard for me but also a favourite son of my hometown so he has a rather special position with me.

I suspect it will be lazily written whatever it is, like Discovery has been so far. But, hey, even that surpassed my very low expectations.

When it appears, I will sit down and watch it with a tea, Earl Grey, hot.

Hi everyone! Thanks to Litecruzer, I found this board :-)

So I too have gotten excited about Patrick Stewart and this new trek series! And to think that only months before I became a Funtrivia member, I had all but given up on everything trek. Fast-forward to 2018, and I am reliving the 3 series I grew up with (TNG, DS9, VOY), plus a new-found interest in these 'fans series' that I've been reading about...

But back on topic: I kinda have to agree with you, nasty_liar, that the new series might be lazily written/produced/directed. The 'new trek' that started with the movies in the J.J. Abrams era has be feeling a bit leery on how the new series will be presented, but I'll give it a chance. I did give Discovery a chance thru a couple of episodes, but because it has felt so 'un-trek' to me (feels like I'm watching just some other sci-fi show), I no longer plan to watch.

Classic trek style is the best. Bring back the Voyager/DS9/TNG uniforms and keep moving FORWARD in time instead of backwards! There, I said it :-)

Hi, and welcome to this Star Trek thread! Many of us are looking forward to a new series with Captain Picard, it is an unexpected surprise to be sure. It is said to "follow the next chapter of Picard's life." Things seem to be moving along rather quickly, more so then one would expect. It's almost as if they were perched, ready to spring into action at the word.......Go!

I love your quiz series NEXUSDARKBLUE, always like the challenge of them. It's rare I find any Star Trek quiz challenging! They are also fun.

I too have been revisiting one of the series recently in DS9. I have been watching it alongside following a twice weekly review series on YouTube (podcast also on iTunes). It's fun, I'm upto 'Our Man Bashir' in season four. A lovely homage to James Bond. Message me if you want details of the podcast, I didn't think I should post details when it frequently contains profanity.

@Litecruzer: Yes, I do have the feeling that they have been ready to spring this Picard series surprise on us for a while, like in case Discovery didn't work out. I hate to sound so negative about Discovery, but I simply don't think it captures the true essence of Star Trek and I am totally ready to embrace this new Picard series with open arms. Yeah, I say that, then I realize still haven't gotten caught up with all of my TNG watching :-)

@nasty_liar: Hey, thanks for the compliments about my quizzes! It's actually just as fun writing the explanations for the answers as it is coming up with the questions themselves.

I am sooooooooo behind on DS9. This podcast review thing sounds interesting; I'll message you shortly...

Patrick Stewart just doesn't seem to age. Look at pics of him from decades ago and now ... I guess he always looked old.

Guess he's stealing the lifeforce from his young wife.

Into season two of Discovery now and I feel like I'm simply watching it because it's Star Trek. It isn't particularly good, in fact much of it is lame. Such a shame, how hard can it be to write an interesting Star Trek show?

A co-worker keeps trying to get me to watch Discovery, but I won't budge. I think he only watches it because of the main character played by the lady from "The Walking Dead" (forgot her name at the moment). Would rather watch old episodes of TNG, and I've been doing exactly that :-)

There’s a trailer for the upcoming new series, Star Trek: Picard. I’m sure you can find it if you search on a search engine.

Oh wow! Just saw the trailer for "Star Trek: Picard" and it looks really cool! I see Data and Seven-Of-Nine are in it. Wonder who else will reprise their old roles? Certainly looks a lot better than Discovery. Besides that, it's nice to see those old Starfleet uniforms ;-)

Star Trek Picard arrived (here in the UK at least, not sure about anywhere else) yesterday!
