Mertens, lukaku, hazard in a good game, Japan play as a very organized team. Inuit, kawashima in the counter. Well played first half with Belgium, Japan score first with Karagushi. What the hell? Reply #501. Jul 02 18, 1:07 PM |

Well, well, well, all expectations are being upset at this year's world cup. Half an hour to go. Teams who want to win and are prepared to work hard are doing well regardless of their previous record, provided they have some good strikers. Reply #504. Jul 02 18, 1:22 PM |

I wonder how Italy would have fared if they had done the right thing by qualifying. I know so much less about Football than you people, it's not the major sport here, Aussie Rules Football is, but I think whoever wins the Belgium v Brazil match will at least make it to the big one. Momentum is a big part of winning. Scoring the most goals is an even bigger part. (Sorry, I can't help writing silly irrelevancies, it's ingrained in my psyche.) Reply #514. Jul 02 18, 10:37 PM |

Hi everyone, It's been a sad weekend/start of the week for Mexico, so what I'll do is hang on until the end of tomorrow, so I can do a recap of the entire round of 16. Thank you for your understanding and continued discussion on this thread. Reply #515. Jul 02 18, 11:39 PM |

Switzerland with combination of short and long passes and Sweeden with a very effective long playing...I liked both teams with their weapons go ahead and try to win. Both teams play with order and good backups in defense without give up to find to score. Not so great game, but it's fine. Reply #516. Jul 03 18, 8:51 AM |

Pretty much agree with Joe.............good "honest" game, few theatrics and evenly matched. Had it been a boxing match though, I would have put Sweden ahead on points, as I think overall they shaded it. Must say though their goal was a somewhat fortuitous deflection......but hey, they all count! Penalty claim in dying minutes of game.........IMO referee decision of "no penalty" was the right one. Enjoyable enough game, if not nail biting...............................for we England fans the nail biting comes this evening! Time for the national team to justify the media hype........."hype or talent"?............"proof of pudding is in the eating", we shall soon see. Reply #518. Jul 03 18, 10:01 AM |
