Hey all!

I'm thrilled to announce our first-ever crossword-specific challenge here in the Author Lounge! With a number of new bonuses for completing crosswords it only made sense to play around with what we can do.

But there's a catch. When I asked our crossword editors what we were looking for, we all realized that we seem to have a bit of an uneven distribution of topics (look at our General section!). So with that, we're here to present twelve different topics we're looking for. The themes should run through your crossword and you should aim, informally, to incorporate as many clues/answers related to the topic you choose. There's no set amount of clues, but a theme is a theme, and you should try your best to weave it through your puzzle.

We don't know what to expect in terms of contributions and authors, so for now, let's say that if you claim one topic and complete it, you may claim another provided the previous one is online. However, we will only allow a maximum of two selections per author at this time. You may, of course, try your hand at more if you're up for the challenge, but only two will count for this one.

For this challenge, we're looking for a crossword for each of these topics, and they should fall into their associated quiz categories. Good luck!

Available Themes:
The Ottoman Empire - Fifiona81
Nintendo Games - Bernie73
Las Vegas Casinos - CmdrK
Famous Artists - Moonraker2
Books of the Bible - Moonraker2
Children's TV Shows - Garymeadows
Currencies of the World - Leith90
Royalty - Bernie73
Comics - Pollucci19
Scientists and Inventors - Moonraker2
Stage Musicals - Mlcmlc
U.S. History - Creedy

I haven't built one before, but I'd gladly give Children's TV Shows a shot!

Thanks Kyle, it's so good to see a breath of fresh air being introduced in the Crosswords section.

I'd like to claim "Scientists and Inventors" please.

There are some tips for writing themed clues in my EDQ, here:

http://www.funtrivia.com/bb.cfm?action=details&qnid=30367&boardid=2222222

that might be helpful, especially for new crossword authors.

I'm looking forward to seeing these in the queue!

This should prove to be an interesting challenge. Not wanting to wander too far from home, I'll have a go at Las Vegas Casinos.

History is submitted.

I thoroughly approve of your submission procedure, CmdrK. If I however ran mine past Mr Creedy at any time he was here, he scratch his and say "Huh?"

I'm happy to compile another, but will leave the way clear for now to give latecomers a better choice.

If nobody claims them, I'd be happy to do either "Currencies of the World" or "Stage Musicals"

My crossword puzzle "King Me" has just made it on-line. It was fun creating a crossword puzzle for a specific category, but I will not draw a second commission this time since I think as many authors as possible that want to should have a chance with this initial set. Looking forward to another chance to try it again.

I have never done a crossword before, but I'd be interested to do one on Nintendo Games. If newbies aren't allowed to participate, then no biggie.

I'd like to try the same two as Moonraker, but now I feel guilty if I ask for either, seeing both he and Bernie are waiting to give others a chance. Should I wait?
