Subject: 20 Questions (single question game)

Posted by: trident
Date: May 29 19

Welcome to our new single question game! This is an idea I’ve been mulling over for a while, so I thought we could give it a shot and see how it goes. Those who want to play should be ready for a challenge. You could encounter any number of topics, so I recommend that players only join if they feel comfortable with being given a completely random topic that they might not know much about.

The premise of this game finds itself in the game 20 Questions. Players will post a yes/no question to this thread. I will answer each question, and then pose a single question topic to the player who asked the question. Here’s the catch: the single question topic I give you will be based on the question that you have asked me. If your question is “Is it a type of cookie?” and I say yes, your single question topic will be about a type of cookie (without being the actual correct answer). If I say no, well, there are lots of things in the world that aren't cookies! This will make more sense as we play along.

Guess the thing correctly, and you will score a point for the 20 Questions leaderboard.

Some quick rules are in order before we start:

1. Please only ask yes/no questions. Answers may sometimes be a little more nuanced than yes/no. The host may also give some hints to help players along.

2. Players may ask more than one question in a row (i.e. with no other players in between), but you must write your previous single question before asking another question.

3. You must have asked a yes/no question previously (and submitted the single question given to you) before you can make a final guess. This is to prevent players from coming in at the last moment and stealing the point from other players.

4. If you would like to make a final guess as to what the thing is, you must put the word GUESS before your guess. This is for clarity’s sake. Ex. GUESS: Is the thing The Statue of Liberty? There is no need to write a single question after final guesses (unless you really want to!).

5. If your final GUESS is incorrect, you must wait 24 hours from the time you made the guess to make another final GUESS. You must also ask a yes/no question and write its single question before making an additional final GUESS. (You don’t need to wait 24 hours to ask the yes/no question.)

6. The host should try not to pick topics that are overly broad or incredibly specific. Try to keep a nice balance so players aren’t left feeling frustrated.

7. The round host has the final say on decisions of rule-keeping and order. Thank you, hosts!

I’m excited to see if this game will work well considering how insightful our authors are. Let’s see if we can get this off the ground. I’m ready to answer your questions!

Clarification of the clarification. Most of these animals are fully domesticated but there are some wild ones too.

Not a donkey, but you're heading in the right direction LadyN. I'm looking for a two word answer, which is a specific breed, although the breed name would also be acceptable as a one word answer.

A bit tricky to answer ye or no LadyN, but I wouldn't call what they do working. You can write about any occupation related to mining.

Badminton (Capital B) submitted to General. Although it might be moved to Geography or Sport...
Might this Madagascan mammal sound as if it comes from Scotland?

Q_B - I don't think anyone has established that it's from Madagascar - that was just a topic I gave. As a freebie, it isn't. You can write about any historical event which took place in Scotland.

tiye - you can choose any word that starts with 'cat' to create a question

As we're over halfway, I'll give you some help. As I mentioned, the answer is two words, a specific breed (first word) of animal (second word) e.g. Persian cat, since I've now told you it's not a feline The animal family is wide ranging and has many uses, including working and leisure, hence my hesitation over that question. I hope I haven't misled you and that adding this hasn't muddied the waters further..
