Subject: Retinal detachment anyone?

Has anyone here had a retinal detachment? I had one in May and it was horrible so I'm doing public service announcements in case anyone else ever has symptoms and isn't sure what to do....

Mine started with an increase in floaters in my eye, over a period of probably a week, and then one day I woke up and there was a grey spot in the corner of my eye. I called my eye doctor and he directed me immediately to emergency, who referred me to a specialist, who referred me to another specialist....sigh. Several hours later and I started out on what ended up being days of treatments and weeks of absolutely no movement whatsoever - I was told what position to stay in so that my eye could re-attach. I binge watched a lot of stuff.

So if you have any of the same symptoms, just go straight to the hospital. I have never moved through emergency as fast as I did when I told them my doctor thought I had a retinal detachment. Apparently if it isn't treated in a very timely manner, there's a real chance you can go blind. Scary stuff!!

Anyone else been through the same thing?

I hope you are doing better now. That must have been scary. No, I can't say that ever happened to me. Do you have any idea what might have caused such a thing? Any trauma?

That was what the doctor asked me...if I had an injury, which I didn't....it just happened out of the blue! The doctor said there are a few things that may cause it - trauma, diabetes, if you had cataract surgery (which I have) then your odds are increased. But nothing really definitive....
