There's been so much press about the "dreaded" Coronavirus, including a lot of very silly conspiracy theories. What's your take?i

It doesn't scare me, people are scaring me. I work in a grocery store attached fuel station. I went into the main store yesterday to get our schedule. There were lines an hour long to check out and they were buying everything. Almost all of the white vinegar, rice, cleaning supplies, canned fruit, pasta, pasta sauce, soup, etc were wiped out or so low it wasn't even funny. I imagine the produce and deli departments will start to be hit now that people have orders to work from home next week. Only a few people brought gas cans to fill yesterday, but it wouldn't surprise me to see more of that today.

Daver, when you posted on March 11, you indicated that you weren't concerned , that you felt this was fake news and unwarranted hype. On March 11, there were 1, 135 Covid-19 cases in the United States, and 29 deaths attributed to the virus. In light of the fact that as of today, April 15, there are 614,451 cases in the US (the most recorded anywhere and roughly 30% of global cases ) and 29,897 people have died in the U.S. (22% of all deaths), has your outlook changed?

50 cases and 3 deaths in the county where he lives. Over 20,000 cases in our state and over 850 deaths.

We've had 16 cases in my county which is very rural.

I'm a little scared. I've just suffered a bereavement. As for a theory, Maybe some scientist "opened" a window.

It does scare me when I see how people are suffering in the ICUs (ITUs) and think that might happen to me (as I am classed as 'vulnerable') or to think that it might happen to friends or family. However it's impossible to live going round scared all the time, so I just get on with things without thinking too much about it most of the time.

One heartening things is that my brother in law caught it in hospital and came through it o.k. He is 79 with lots of ailments, so we were pleased that he was able to shake it off.

Our idiot provincial Premier is allowing some businesses -including restaurant/bar patios and hairdressers - and some public facilities (libraries, museums) to open again on May 4. This, despite the fact that three new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Manitoba today. I'm staying put until Manitoba goes two solid weeks without a single new case of Covid-19.

Cymruambyth, I keep forgetting you are not from Wales. If the number of cases is very low, they might be thinking they are more prepared to keep control by tracking those cases and their contacts now and eliminating them that way. At the moment the UK is testing some tracking app on the Isle of Wight with a view to rolling it out wider if it works. Even if there were only a few cases though, I still wouldn't want to be one of those few.

Anyone who isn't scared isn't paying attention. (IMO)

Interesting that the last reply on this board was on August 26. Hundreds of thousands of people have died of Covid since then in the U.S. alone. You bet your sweet patootie I'm scared out of my wits.

The worst of it is not the terrible disease, the worst of it is that so many people refuse to take commonsense safety measures like wearing a mask and staying socially distanced. In this country it has become highly politicized. Weak Democrats mask up, strong Republicans demonstrate their manly independence by not doing so. Unfortunately, it is not only the inconsiderate, unpatriotic idiots that suffer.

In the United States Covid deaths total is fast approaching the total 'combat deaths' suffered by US forces during WWII.

It scares the heck out of me. I know someone who got it one day and died the next. He was strong and healthy and working at his job, so it definitelly could happen to anyone.
