Shula was the winningest coach in NFL history. He coached first for the Baltimore Colts, but spent most of his career with the Miami Dolphins, where he won back-to-back Super Bowls (VIi and VIII). It was the famous 1972 season where Shula's Dolphins had the famous "perfect season", winning every game in the regular season to go 14-0 and then all the playoffs, including Super Bowl VII where he defeated George Allen's Washington Redskins ("The Over the Hill Gang") 14-7 (the 7 for Washington came on Dolphin's kicker Garo Yepremian's flubbed pass following a blocked field goal attempt, one of the most bizarre plays in Super Bowl history).

That Dolphins team had numerous Hall of Famers on it. And they were so happy to see the Patriots fail in the Super Bowl years later to complete their attempt at a "perfect season". The Dolphins did lose two games in the 73 season, though they won Super Bowl VIII against the Vikings. It is strange that Shula only went back to the Super Bowl once in Dan Marino's long career (his second season, for Super Bowl XVII) and, although it was against the Redskins again, that time the Dolphins lost.

Don Shula was a true legend and will be missed.
