Ok. Heres mine. May not be in chronological order but it's close to what I grew up with from family and friend influences. The Beatles - "1962-1966" The Doors - "Strange Days" Simon & Garfunkel - "Bookends" The Beatles - "1967-1970" Deep Purple - "Deep Purple in Rock" Black Sabbath -"Master of Reality" David Bowie -"The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" Rush - "Caress of Steel" Pink Floyd - "Wish You Were Here" Jackson Browne - "Late for the Sky" There are so many others. I could probably give you ten more every ten days for ten weeks...Hard to do this. LOL Reply #2. May 06 20, 5:31 PM |

This is hard for me, and very thought provoking. Here is my list, but I'll probably want to amend it in the future: Beatles- White Album Beatles- Abbey Road Cream- Live Cream Eric Clapton - pretty much every album of his career through 1994, though if I have to pick one, I'll go with "No Reason to Cry" George Harrison- Brainwashed Mark Knopfler- Shangri-La Gordon Lightfoot- Sundown Allman Brothers- Eat a Peach Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble- Soul to Soul Rory Gallagher- Stage Struck Reply #4. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Beatles - White Album Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet Linda Ronstadt - Prisoner in Disguise Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Emmylou Harris - Luxury Liner Reply #5. Yes, for me I basically picked different albums from different times in my life - sometimes I didn't get into an album until it had been out for years. Reply #6. May 16 20, 9:43 AM |

I've done this challenge on Facebook! Here's my choices/explanations (not in any particular order). Actually choosing only 10 albums is basically impossible and subject to constant change, but these are my choices for the present. Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising This album was only released last year but it immediately got to me and seeing her play this whole album live cemented it as my current #1 favourite. She has such an amazing voice and the lyrics really hit home at times (especially 'Wild Time' right now, for obvious reasons). On top of that the instrumentation is just gorgeous. Fave song: 'Mirror Forever' Slowdive - Souvlaki Like all of these albums, this album means a lot. Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead are underrated songwriters in terms of how evocative their lyrics can be. Beyond that the melancholic vibe of the instruments just really gets to me. Fave song: 'When the Sun Hits' My Bloody Valentine - Loveless One of those albums I wish I could listen to for the first time again. I can't believe this album came out in 1991 because it would still sound groundbreaking if it was released now. This completely changed my perceptions of what music could sound like. At first it sounded like total noise, then gradually it started to click. It's so easy to get lost in and every time I listen to it I notice something new - it really does sound like its album cover. Fave song: 'Sometimes' The Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas John Darnielle is one of the best songwriters ever and this is his strongest collection of songs, in my opinion. This is kind of a collection of short stories in album form, and I just really love these stories. Fave song: 'Riches and Wonders' Bon Iver - Bon Iver This was one of the first full albums I really loved and it holds a special place in my heart still. Justin Vernon is probably my favourite artist given how deep and wide his discography is. This album is a really good one to put on when you're not sure what you want to listen to because it caters to just about every mood. I am also pretty sure this is my most listened to album of all time! Fave song: 'Perth' The Hotelier - Home, Like NoPlace is There One my first entry points into 'heavier' styles of music and still my favourite punk album (or emo or whatever you want to call it). I've listened to this so many times that I am probably a bit desensitised to it now, but this album deals with some really heavy topics and it is not exactly an easy listen. That said it is very cathartic, especially with those big singalong moments. Fave song: 'An Introduction to the Album' Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun This album is just so incredibly beautiful that words don't do it justice. Jónsi has an amazing voice, and I also love the sound of the electric guitar played with a cello bow that pops up throughout. It kind of sounds like the sort of music I imagine aliens would make which makes the album cover very fitting. Fave song: 'Viðrar vel til loftárása' Frank Ocean - Blonde This is the definition of a 'grower' album. I was slightly put off by how formless it is at first, but gradually it won me over with its amazing ability to describe intangible emotions, particularly nostalgia. It's a bit of a cliche for Frank Ocean fans to joke about 'crying to Blonde at 3am', but that description is very fitting. Fave song: White Ferrari Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See Probably my most-played album currently. It's so dreamy and atmospheric, but there's something deeply sad underlying its standoffish appearance. Very easy to lose yourself in. Fave song: Unreflected. Bluetile Lounge - lowercase A bit of a hidden gem/cult classic here. It's very impactful indie rock played at a glacial pace. It makes everything feel immense and heavy, and profoundly changed my life. Also, Perth represent! Fave song: the weight (and the sea) Reply #9. May 17 20, 10:03 PM |
