Subject: RIP Tabby Tom

I'd like to post a tribute to Tom who died in December and whose funeral will be next Wednesday, 1st February. Tom was an active and enthusiastic member of this site for many years and was also a Moderator on the Forums. I think he was a remarkable man, with an extensive knowledge of many diverse subjects. A group of us would meet online three times a week for informal quizzes/chats. Tom would host the Wednesday night quiz and his questions were always fun and interesting. I'll miss his gentle sense of humour and descriptions of the favourite red wine or single malt whisky he was drinking that night. One of the blessings of this site is that many good friendships can be made, one of the curses is when friends just disappear and we don't know why, I didn't want that to happen with Tom. Tom contributed to the Forum members interviews in 2009

I seldom wander over to the chat boards, so I was very sorry to see this just today. Tom was a regular player at Wit's End for over 8 years. As others have said, always sad to lose a member of our trivia family. Thank you for posting this tribute. Reply #21. Mar 23 23, 3:47 PM |

Thanks Claudia, you did tell me at the time but only just found it here. Tom was a mainstay of the site, writing and editing many of the top quizzes, and moderating a number of fairly academic topics. I met him at our meetup in 2004 and chatted with him regularly online since, and of course when you have known people for over 20 years we all get older.
