Subject: A missing team member

Posted by: shipyardbernie
Date: Jun 27 23

Does anyone know Vicky (boof123) who left my team The Misplaced to join the New Horizons team lead by donkeehote. She has not been seen for a while and David (donkeehote) would appreaciate any news about her.

I'm going to close this thread. I'm sure that your reasons are honourable, and that donkeehote's are too, BUT... FT members are free to come and go as they please, when they please. We keep their accounts "live" (although some people do close their own accounts) and they may return at any time. (It may not surprise you that one of the more frequent enquiries sent to Feedback is "I last played ten years ago and can't remember my username/password...)

We also understand that when members disappear, apparently without notice, it can often cause concern among other players. Sometimes players do give notice by telling other players they count as friends and with whom they may have shared more personal details. If they left without telling other people, such as their team, then that may puzzle some people but it may mean nothing more than that they stopped logging on. Online activities can be fairly intense, sometimes it's good to stop for a while. Sometimes 'real life' gets too busy to allow time for browsing or online games. And sometimes people just move on.

If someone wants to leave, take a break, or simply disappear, that is their right. Trying to track them down may seem like a good idea, especially to people with good motives, but it can also be a very bad idea. Online stalking is a real problem and people who indulge in it often get their information in small snippets from a variety of sources. These are open chatboards. Anyone can read them. Including people who are not registered on FT. Speculation about individual players that may lead to the sharing of personal information in a public space really isn't a good idea. I don't want to open the doors to that kind of privacy breach about this or any other player. If you wish to make enquiries then please do so away from the public areas of the site but please be careful to respect other people's privacy.
