Subject: 'Playing' With Titles - A Challenge

Posted by: kyleisalive
Date: Oct 18 23

So often around here challenges come up where we ask authors to take an existing title and make it into something new. This is going to do much of the same, but the focus will be turning to famous stage plays and stage musicals.

In this challenge, we have eight plays and eight musicals, but we're looking for twenty-four quizzes, so eight that are not listed here are also up for grabs. Any category works, and we recommend making use of the Quiz Subtitle option where necessary to make clear that your quiz is deviating from the expectation that might be held for the name. The title of your quiz must be the same as the title of the play or musical you select, even if the contents vary.

As a note, a total of FOUR quizzes (out of twenty-four) MUST be about the actual play or musical; you'll likely be sending those to Humanities.

Authors may claim or add one title at a time, but they may claim/add another if their previous one goes online.

Now go break a leg. Good luck!
(And thanks to Kaddarsgirl for the challenge concept!)

Does a musical TV series work for this challenge?

If it does work, I'll add "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers" (1978) in the Television category.

I'm sorry for the double posting, but can I use an existing title from one of my own previous quizzes?

Repeating titles should be avoided - better to modify it slightly, so it is unique. (Kyleisalive needs to rule on whether the title works.)

For what it's worth, my original idea that I sent to Kyle was for using strictly titles of Tony Award-winning stage plays and musicals, with the quizzes being about something other than the original play/musical that inspired the quiz title :)

The 8 plays and 8 musicals that are the listed titles above are all Tony winners :)

Repeating titles should be avoided where possible. This said, your previous quiz appears to be on the same topic (the miniseries)? Making two quizzes on the same topic with the same name from the same author might look a bit odd.

I misunderstood the prompt. Can I still do the challenge on "D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers"?

I can't find a play or a musical with that exact title. I'd suggest that you pick one of the titles listed if you want to take part. The idea of the challenge is to take a title and use it to create a quiz which is nothing to do with the play or musical which inspired the title. Sleuth could, for example, be used to write about television or film detectives.

If I've misunderstood your intention, sorry.

Ohh, I get it, Rossian. I so misunderstood the prompt. Thanks for clarifying it, and I guess I'll need a while to think whether I'm going to join this challenge.

To be fair, Kyle has said that a very small number can be about the play or musical listed but your suggested title doesn't seem to fit that requirement anyway.

I'd rather have the challenge of creating something new. I've actually thought of an idea while writing this note. Whether it sees the light of day remains to be seen, though.

I have an idea for 'West Side Story' which did win a couple of Tonys, but not the main one. It was nominated, though.

I'm going to claim a Wildcard slot for "Next to Normal" to be one of the 4 quizzes that's actually about the play/musical.

Similar to rossian, it didn't win the Tony for Best Musical, but it did win 3 other Tony's and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Mine will just be using the title. Not a song or dance in sight.

Kyle, may I change mine from the actual musical to a quiz possibly in World or Geography category?
