Subject: Silver to Crown: 24 Hrs Badges Odyssey!

Posted by: ankitankurddit

Ahh, I just love the new system, and I have been so much more active here than before. I was here in the past as well in the old system, but I was a bit on silent mode. That is why I don't think anyone knows me here. I have been here for more than 13 years, but I am like a ghost! :)

The new full badge images on the 24 hrs badges are really cool. I heartedly share my gratitude to the folks who designed these badges. Just out of curiosity. It's the innocent kitty, Evi, who did this, right? :)

Okay, I am writing a blog after such a long time. So, here it goes:-

There are many things to do on this site, but playing quizzes is one of my favs. I am especially looking to gain upgrades on each of the 20 24-hour badges one by one. And, working on upgrades on these 24-hour badges is going to be my focus for the next few months. So, here I am.

I am just beginning my journey (I have just started with my tier 3 (silver) upgrades), so it will be a long ride!

There are 20 categories. And, this is how I have divided these categories for myself:

Double positive (++) - Movies, Television, For Children

- because I have an eidetic memory. I can remember more from a movie that I watched once 10 years ago than an article on science or geography that I read 10 days ago!

Positive (+) - Sci/Tech, Geography, Animals, World, Entertainment

- Computer Science is one of my two majors (the other being Marketing), so I feel comfortable with Sci-Tech. I love traveling, so that's Geography and World. I am an Animal lover. And, I put Entertainment here because I think that I can get all upgrades of 24 hrs Entertainment by just doing Marvel and DC comics!

Neutral (n) - General, Sports, History, Hobbies, Humanities, Literature, Celebrities

- I am looking forward to the NFL Wild Card weekend, if the Chiefs win, Sports is going into ++ :) ... It's in neutral because whenever the team that I like does not win, it does not feel good. So, that's why I keep Sports in neutral... I like History less than Geography. I love food, cards, and Astrology, but that might not be enough to get all upgrades on Hobbies. I love English as a language, but I am worried that might not be enough for all upgrades. If it is, Humanities is going to +...

Negative (-) - People, Religion, Brain Teasers

Brain Teasers is fun, but I just like clicking more than typing. Religion is difficult. And, I like learning about other People, but I find that category also difficult.

Negative (--) - Video Games, Music

--- because I have never played any video game, and I only listen to music that I listen to in a movie or a TV show. I extensively watch movies and TV shows, and I love background scores, but I do not find myself listening to songs much.

....

I already got so many suggestions from so many of you on my question about strategies for these 24-hour badges in general chat. Thank you very much to everyone who helped. I found all those suggestions very helpful to get all these 20 24-hour badges and upgrade all of those 20 badges to bronze. But, now the real challenge begins. So, it is going to be a long long journey.

And, just to not feel lonely in navigating this, I thought of starting this blog. I will keep on sharing my journey as I go, and I will be so happy to hear from you all about your own journey with these 24 hours badges as well!

In my opinion, these 24 hrs badges are one of the best badges on this site, so I am so excited for this journey of getting from silver to crown of each of these 24 hrs badges!

I just completed my third tier 3 - Brain Teasers. I got 500 out of 600 questions by doing Mystery Sort quizzes. There are about 60+ Mystery Sort quizzes with 900+ questions. I am okay with these quizzes, so I only did 40 easy ones out of the available 60, and I was only able to get 500 questions right from this. If your accuracy is higher in Mystery Sort, you can even potentially get a tier 4 on Brain Teasers 24 hrs badge by just doing these Mystery Sort quizzes.

What other sub-categories would you recommend (or you like) in Brain Teasers? Mystery Sort will now pretty much be locked for me for a few months, so I am asking! I like "Drop a Letter" ones too, but I like clicking more than typing. So, if you know any more of the "clickable" quizzes in Brain Teasers, I'd be glad to hear about them. If I find them in my journey, I'll put them down in my future posts on this blog!

I did six more tier 3 upgrades on 24 hrs badges in the past few days. I did Science, Humanities, General, Geography, Sports, and World. I had already upgraded Kids Trivia to tier 3 way back, which is something I will not repeat because I now want to preserve Kids Trivia for Endurance. So, I will not pre-do any tier upgrade on any badge. It will be a straightforward journey from now onwards: tier 3 - badge 1 to 20, tier 4 - badge 1 to 20, tier 5 - badge 1 to 20, and so on. Yes, the order in which I do the tier upgrades might vary a bit in each tier journey.

Also, I learned quite a few things while doing the above-mentioned upgrades.
I refreshed my memory of JAVA and C++ while doing Science. I learned about a few UNESCO Heritage sites while doing World. I similarly learned something new from the other four categories as well. I will look forward to learning more in my journey forward!

Now I think I am exactly halfway in my silver journey because it is 10 done and 10 more to go. Hoping for the best! :)

Sorry, quite new here (signed up in 2016, but never really played until October 2023). If I decide to do 1500 questions of General in a single day, do I get all the tiers that day, or do I need to achieve each tier on a different day?
Thanks in advance.

Hello, that's a good question. You can potentially get all tiers in one day. However, as soon as you get one tier, the counter resets.

For example, you started your questions in General category at 1 p.m. FT time. And, you completed 200 questions at around 3 p.m. FT time. You then collect your 24 hrs General badge. The counter resets!

So, you need 400 more questions to get the next upgrade. The 200 questions that you solved earlier will not be counted in these 400 required questions for the next upgrade.

Essentially to get all 7 tiers in one days, we would have to solve 200 + 400 + 600 + 800 + 1000 + 1250 + 1500 = 5750 questions.

Also, please note that the time in the timer also resets when you achieve any tier on these 24 hrs badges. So, when you got your 24 hrs General badge at 3 pm FT time. You will have time till 3 pm FT time on the next day (24 hours from you got your earlier upgrade) to do the next upgrade.

So, if you go on a sprint to achieve all 7 tiers of 24 hrs General, you might complete it sooner than 7 days because you are saving a few hours on each tier whenever you complete earlier.

However, most folks recommend to take these 24 hrs badges slow because it is possible to get a lot of other badges in parallel of getting these 24 hrs badges like:

1) endurance
2) quiz list claimer
3) I'm the biggest fan
4) alphabet soup
5) all round quizzer
6) fool me once
7) a lot of scavenger hunts
8) 24 carat, master masher, and 990 - my three favorite badges that I have already completed - I hope and pray that someday they add upgrades to these three lovely badges

So, if you go fast with the 24 hrs badges, there are about 800 prestige points available (also counting the prestige that you would get for FT points).

However, if we take it slow, and take in all the above badges in our journey, there is nearly 700 additional prestige. So, we can have 1500+ prestige by playing quizzes for a period of two months or three months.

These are just my thoughts, You could also get rapidly done with all these 20 badges 7 tiers in 15 days or 1 month. That rapid pace be an epic achievement to be honest. However, I am targeting for the three months with a slower pace. Good luck with your journey! :)

PS - FT time is CST time without the daylight savings unless I'm mistaken!

Tiers for any badge are always one-at-a-time. While you can get more than one level in a single day, they always reset, and must be done in order. No cutting to the front of the line ;-)

Yes, FT time is Central Standard time, it does not change in the Spring. The current FT time is shown at the left, on the home page, under 'Today & News'.

Good luck to both of you in your quests.

Thank you for the explanation and your wishes. I hope to give my best in this quest! :)

But, oh no! It is time for my end-term exam of the January 2024 term here on FT! I have to complete the All Rounder Quizzer tier 2 upgrade. I am done with 10 categories, so I have to achieve 9/10 in 10 quizzes in 10 more categories.

I have mainly got + and ++ categories left, so I will try to sprint through the tier 3 upgrades of the 24 hrs badges of these few categories and get the required scores for the All Rounder Quizzer. The game is afoot (will do some Sherlock quizzes for the Literature category)! :)

So, I will turn on my coffee pot for the next 30 hours or so, and it is going to feel like my end-term exam, so someone please wish me some good luck! I hope to get some sleep, so I got to complete this end-term in less than 22 hours! Ta-da!

Okay, I was able to complete the All-Rounder tier 2 upgrade. I was also able to do two tier 3 24 badges - Literature and Animals. I learned an interesting fact that dogs are smarter than cats while doing Animal quizzes. I always thought cats were smarter, so this was a bit surprising. I know that smartness is subjective and cannot be objectively quantified accurately, but still, this was a surprise. I will now investigate this further in my free time. :)

So, I am now left with seven tier 3 24 badges, so a lot of work is yet to be done on the silver path.

I also picked up a tier 4 upgrade on the Alphabet Soup badge, as I have been doing the above-mentioned things in the last two days. Finding quizzes for letters like Z, Q, and so on is difficult. So, I can imagine how tough this Alphabet Soup badge will get for the subsequent tiers (5 to 7). If anyone has any suggestions for this, I will be happy to hear them.

I might take a small break for a few days in my silver journey. So, maybe I may restart when the next GC starts on the coming Monday. I think the GC will be a further motivating factor in my journey. I have been trying for the Achievement 9 badge for a long time, but I always lose momentum when I reach level 7 or 8 in a GC because of the intense pressure of not missing a single set. However, I will try to determine whether one can reach level 9 in GC after missing a set or two. If I find that it is indeed possible to do that, that would relax me a bit. So, I have this weekend to figure this out. However, I want to do my best to get the Achievement Level 9 badge in the upcoming GC. And, in doing so, also complete this silver-to-crown 24-hour journey in the next four months or so.

It's definitely possible to reach Level 9, while missing a set or two. You can see from the last GC's final scores, that not everyone played all 1530 games.

Also, always remember to play the Twist. It helps a great deal. And play the Impossible... even if it seems 'impossible'. Every bit of advancement adds up.

You might want to read through the Immortal thread for further tips:

Thank you very much for sharing this. I feel lighter now. I will try my best not to miss any sets, but I am less stressed about missing one now. Also, thanks for the Immortal thread link. It is pretty extensive, and there is much helpful information there. I will keep following that during my upcoming GC journey starting on Monday. I will also daily play all sets, including Impossible and Brain Twists.

I recently completed all tier 3s on 24-hour badges. I am thrilled to start my first tier 4 today. I am beginning with history right now. I did study some history in my school, and I have watched a few documentaries on WW2. I have been looking forward to watching a few documentaries by Ken Burns, but that has yet to materialize. I may watch a few Ken Burns documentaries before I get to tier 7 of history. I do watch BBC documentaries, but that mainly helps for the animals category.

also grinding the global challenge for the time, aiming to hit immortal(and victorious if i can manage it, though that seems a little out of reach), I do seem to be on pace even though I was dumb and missed the first round.

one go of this is enough for me though, not built to do this consistently

@rahul0, Oh, that is good to hear. I do not have a good average in GC, so I can only aim for the Achievement GC level 9 badge. I will be happy if I receive it. I have not dropped a set till now in the ongoing GC, so I am giving my best. Good luck to you for your quest! :)

Wow, I just started my golden path. I completed the tier 4 upgrade on three badges - Music, Video Games, and Religion. Two of these three are my -- categories, and the remaining one is my - category. I am so astonished at the discrepancy in my emotions while working on these quiz-playing badges. I feel over the moon whenever I play any number of quizzes in my three ++ categories. However, in the last four days, I had to play over 1000 quizzes to get just three upgrades in my -- and - categories, and it feels like someone sucked my soul out of me. I know, I know, I sound a bit like a drama queen. :(

However, that is the beauty of these 24-hour badges; they compel you to leave your comfort zone. If these 24-hour badges had not been there, I would have never played these many quizzes in my -- categories. Moreover, even though I feel tired, I think I have learned many new things in the past few days. I learned a lot about Taylor Swift songs, Sonic games, and many different religions worldwide. So, I'm looking forward to more of this, and so it will be because there is a lot to do!

Also, when I am done with my last tier 7 upgrade of these 24-hour badges, I bet that (after thanking you all for your continued suggestions) I will say nice things like I was always motivated and I always believed in myself. However, I want to put a note here for that future me (gonna call my future me - futty) - Hey, futty, your motivation came and went away like a sine wave. You had to reach out to the FT community in one general chat thread because you lost belief in yourself before beginning your tier 3 journey. So, this has been really, really tough. However, you always got support from the FT community whenever needed and pulled through. Congratulations on achieving your goal, ta-da, bye!

I have completed three more categories in the Golden Path: Sports, Brain Teasers, and Literature. I found the mystery-sort questions in Brain Teasers category very intriguing, but I have decided to save them for the tier 5 round. Also, I used a few topics for my Literature tier 4 upgrade, like Fables and Mixed Lit. However, while playing Animal Farm quizzes, I felt almost transported back in time when I had read that book for the first time. It is such a gloomy and sad book, yet it contains many important messages for us to learn. Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes: One of the few topical areas that belong in an altar for me are treasured for future tiers! :)

I also play GC regularly to earn the Achievement Div 9 badge and participate in the hourly and daily games, especially the ones listed on this month's team game roster. I am also venturing into authoring on FT. So far, I have written two quizzes, but I need to work on a single question ASAP. This question is for a new game on our Author Lounge called 20 Questions.

Let's see where this day takes me. After a while, I will want to start working on my seventh 24-hour tier 4 upgrade. I will work on the single question tomorrow on my computer. I already found some interesting information about the topic given to me, but I am now thinking of a good question.

I like to play quizzes, hourlies, and dailies on my tablet, but then I switch to my computer to write anything on our chat board or do any authoring activity. I have a grand plan to play quizzes here on FT while taking an online course or doing some other task. I aim to do this when I hit the point where I need to work on tier 6 and 7 upgrades for these 24-hour badges.

PS - Futty (Future Me), when you have to start your tier 7 upgrades, and you wonder about in what order you did your tier 4 upgrades, a note to you - Everything mentioned in this blog about tier 4 upgrades is in a strict top-to-bottom and left-to-right order. That means in the post before this, I wrote Music, VG, and Religion, so that is the order (from Music to Religion). Gotcha? If not, go ahead and invent a time machine or something. Bye, ta-da, Futty! :)

Wow, I am precisely midway now. I just completed ten tier 4 upgrades, which is the half-point of all tier 1 to 7 upgrades on these 24-hour badges. It has been an extensive process till now, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have also learned quite a few new things in this journey and look forward to expanding my knowledge. I am rewatching the Simpsons these days, so I look forward to taking the Simpsons quizzes for my Television 24-hour badge upgrade. The GC is probably going into its last month, so I hope to get my tier 9 achievement badge before the GC ends.

I also mingled other activities with this 24-hour journey, so I collected a few badges and badge upgrades. I got a few scavengers, and I also got the badge for reaching the path of the mammals in the FT duels. Surprisingly, I got Three Keys, too, and I had no idea how I got it. However, I felt very happy to receive it. It almost felt like Lucky Ducky to me! :)
