In Search of Lost Time. I read all volumes, when I was 33 years old. It would have been better to read it earlier. Other long stories I read: Buddenbrooks, The Thibaults, The Forsyte Saga. Reply #341. Oct 23 14, 7:33 PM |

The same book JONESNIDER mentioned, The Stand by Stephen King, uncut and un-abrigded. Over 1,000 pages, it's STILL my favorite by Mr. King! Reply #342. Oct 23 14, 9:02 PM |

Had to go through all 18 pages to make sure I hadn't posted before. This thread dates back to 2004. I have read War and Peace (took 25 years), The Gulag Archipelago (took about a week), and several textbooks that may have had fewer but much larger pages. If I get to count a bound edition as a single book, I have read the Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe and The Complete Illustrated Sherlock Holmes, both of which are about 1500 pages, I believe. Has anyone ever read the unabridged version of Les Miserables? It's 10 volumes, and knowing the story, I'm not even inclined to read the abridged version. Reply #343. Nov 09 14, 1:48 PM |

When I was 16 I bought "The Lord of the Rings" which combines 3 volumes by J R R Tolkien and I read that non-stop from start to finish. I don't remember how many pages it was but I'm sure it was the longest. I've also read "The Quincunx" by Charles Palliser which is 1191 pages long and may be the second longest. Those are the ones I can remember anyway. Reply #344. Jul 21 15, 9:04 AM |

Quiet Flows The Don by Mikhail Sholokhov, in three volumes. Just finished reading The Great Book of Amber by Roger Zelanzny, which contains all ten of the novels in the Amber series in one volume. Reply #345. Jul 25 15, 6:41 PM |

As of age 12, it was Gone With the Wind, then every summer until I graduated high school. Reply #347. Aug 09 15, 8:23 AM |

The longest book I ever read was Moby Dick. What an epic struggle! (Mine I mean, not Captain Ahab against the white whale...) Reply #349. Aug 29 15, 7:34 PM |

I've read "War and Peace". I'm not sure I'm proud of that fact. Took me months. Reply #350. Aug 29 15, 8:30 PM |
