Bowser descends upon the ice castle inhabited by the penguins via an airship. Bowser tells the penguins to surrender or meet their doom. Comically, the penguins throw snowballs at Bowser that do absolutely nothing to him. Bowser's army quickly captures the penguins and Bowser makes them his prisoners. In the video game series of the same name, penguin characters first appeared in "Super Mario 64" (1996).

In the "Mario Kart" games, players race in go-karts and have different abilities like speed and strength as well as various power-ups to make the races interesting. The "Super Mario Bros. Movie" nailed the "Mario Kart" vibe including having one of the koopas yell "blue shell" after he released the powerful object at Mario and Donkey Kong. The blue shell destroyed the vehicle and sent Mario and Donkey Kong tumbling into the water.

For good measure, Peach shoves a shrinking mushroom into Bowser so that he is less powerful.
