Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who had been exiled from Coruscant from the beginning of the series in "Outcast"?

Answer: Luke Skywalker

Chief of State Daala originally had Luke arrested for not stopping Jacen Solo from taking over the Galactic Alliance back in "Legacy of the Force". As a result, Luke made an agreement with Daala where he would go on a ten-year exile from Coruscant and any other Jedi base in the galaxy.

His sentence would be shortened if and when he discovered the cause of Jacen's fall to the dark side of the Force by traveling to the worlds where Jacen himself visited in order to broaden his own understanding of the Force following the Yuuzhan Vong War.
2. Who came along with the exiled Jedi?

Answer: Ben Skywalker

The reason that Ben came along with Luke in "Outcast" was so that he could find closure regarding Jacen. Since Jacen had done some exceptionally cruel things to Ben during the Second Galactic Civil War, Ben at least wanted to know the reasons that his cousin fell to the dark side. He would do so in the following novel, "Omen".
3. Who was left in charge of the Jedi Order in "Outcast"?

Answer: Kenth Hamner

In Luke's absence, as part of the agreement made with Daala, Hamner was placed in charge as acting Grand Master of the Jedi Order. Hamner had been placed in this position before near the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War when Luke went to search for the living world of Zonama Sekot. Hamner was the most loyal Jedi to Daala when the P.R. war between them was at its boiling point.
4. What was the first location the two exiled Jedi went to in "Outcast" in order to find out where Jacen fell to the dark side?

Answer: Dorin

Dorin was the home of the Baran Do Sages Force sect, where Jacen was taught to harness electricity in the Force (not the same as typical Force lightning or Electric Judgment). Luke was able to quickly harness this technique, considering his mastery in the Force.

While on the planet, the Skywalkers uncovered a conspiracy which involved the Sages master who led the sect while Jacen was with them.
5. Who were the first two Jedi to fall to the mysterious psychosis that made them believe that everyone around them, with the exception of those who share the psychosis, was an impostor?

Answer: Seff Hellin and Valin Horn

Hellin was the very first Jedi to fall to this psychosis, as had previously been hinted at in this series' precursor novel, "Millennium Falcon". Valin was the second to fall to the mysterious psychosis in "Outcast". While Valin was imprisoned in carbonite under Daala's orders, Hellin was lucky enough to be taken by the secret Darkmeld society for medical healer and Jedi Master Cilghal to take care of.
6. Who turned out to be the voice who spoke to Allana above Kessel in "Outcast"?

Answer: Abeloth

Abeloth's presence in the series was first hinted at when she spoke to Allana above the near-dying world of Kessel. Abeloth would later be fully introduced in the series' third novel, "Abyss". By the fifth book, "Allies", Abeloth was one of the series' primary threats, right next to the Lost Tribe of the Sith and Daala.
7. In which novel was the Lost Tribe of the Sith first introduced into the series?

Answer: Omen

In the series' second novel, "Omen", the Lost Tribe was discovered by the Sith Meditation Sphere known as Ship, which was previously seen in "Fury", the seventh novel of "Legacy of the Force". Ship had previously declined the One Sith's offer of power, as he believed them to be too weak and passive to serve under.

The Sphere helped the Lost Tribe get space-worthy by helping them pirate ships from sectors nearby the Sith's home world of Kesh.
8. Whose voice was replicated in the translator for the Aing-Tii named Tadar'Ro in "Omen"?

Answer: Jorj Car'das

Car'das was a long-dead smuggler who somehow had the privilege of meeting Yoda, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and the Aing-Tii while he was still alive. Through Car'das's voice, Tadar'Ro was able to tell the Skywalkers everything regarding Aing-Tii society and the concurrent conflicts that were occurring within it.

Interestingly enough, on certain photos regarding the Expanded Universe, Car'das bears a striking resemblance to a much younger George Lucas.
9. What was Tahiri Veila arrested for at the end of "Omen"?

Answer: Killing Grand Admiral Pellaeon

During the Second Galactic Civil War, Tahiri killed Imperial Grand Admiral Pellaeon for refusing to aid Darth Caedus amidst the Second Battle of Fondor. Daala obtained evidence to this because Pellaeon had a recording device implanted in his room at the time of his murder.

It is unknown why Daala didn't have Tahiri arrested some time two years earlier after she became Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance.
10. Which Jedi returned in "Abyss" after his previous appearance in the "Dark Nest" trilogy?

Answer: Raynar Thul

The last time we saw Raynar, Luke Skywalker defeated him in combat and convinced him to renounce control over the hive-minded Killik species. After this, Raynar had been placed in one of the Jedi Temple's mental wards for recovery from controlling the Killiks for so long. When he came back, he was relatively normal again.
11. How did the Skywalkers contact the late Jacen Solo aboard Sinkhole Station in "Abyss"?

Answer: Through Mind Walking

When the Skywalkers finally contacted Jacen from beyond the grave via Mind Walking, he told them that there was an evil dark presence that threatened the entire galaxy, which turned out to be Abeloth. He used this as half-justification for the evils he committed during the Second Galactic Civil War.

Interestingly enough, Jacen never mentioned such a threat during the entire course of "Legacy of the Force".
12. Where were the insane Jedi taken to in "Abyss"?

Answer: Shedu Maad

In order to avoid further scrutiny by Daala regarding the insane Jedi, the Solos and their still-sane Jedi allies took the unstable Knights to the Order's base on Shedu Maad. They encountered some conflict in trying to get the paranoid Knights off of Coruscant, such as Daala's hired Mandalorians and a near-uncontrollable Bazel Warv. Raynar Thul took care of the latter situation by convincing Bazel that it would make him feel guilty to leave his fellow Knights to be taken away for whatever fate awaited them.
13. Who was the only survivor in the Sith assassination squad sent to kill the Skywalkers in "Abyss"?

Answer: Vestara Khai

It was a simple matter for the Skywalkers to kill several of the Sith sent to eliminate them, considering that even some members of the Sith actually turned on each other in the midst of combat. Whilst Ben was sent to prime the "Jade Shadow's" engines, Luke was left to duel with Vestara Khai and her Master Lady Rhea, the remainders of the Sith squad.

While Luke killed Rhea, he intentionally spared Vestara so that he could use the Dathomiri blood technique on her in order for the Skywalkers to trace her back to her home world.

This way, the Skywalkers would be able to know where the Sith were and therefore be able to contact the Jedi to combat this threat.
14. What was the planet the Skywalkers tracked the surviving Sith to in "Backlash"?

Answer: Dathomir

Vestara was smart enough to realize that the blood Luke left on her was meant to be a Force-fabricated tracking beacon, which would lead the Skywalkers right back to Kesh if she, too, went there. So Vestara led them away from her intended destination to Dathomir, where the blood technique originated.

There, she and the Skywalkers got involved in a plot against the Dathomiri Nightsisters and were forced to team up and fight them.
15. Which novel in "Fate of the Jedi" was the first book that Nek Bwua'tu appeared in that wasn't a Troy Denning novel?

Answer: Backlash

The only novels that Bwua'tu previously appeared in prior to "Backlash" were as follows: "Dark Nest II: The Unseen Queen", "Tempest", "Inferno", and "Invincible", which were all written by Troy Denning. As "Backlash" was written by Aaron Allston, it seems that Bwua'tu is finally being written by other authors, which include Allston and series co-partner Christie Golden. Ironically, Bwua'tu didn't appear in Denning's third novel in "Fate of the Jedi", "Abyss", although he was mentioned in that book.
16. In "Backlash", Allana piloted the "Millennium Falcon" in order to get away from which character?

Answer: Monarg

Monarg was a corrupt junkyard dealer who tried to use a captured R2-D2 for spare parts. After Allana and C-3PO saved the little astromech droid, they all fled to the "Millennium Falcon" and Allana personally flew the legendary ship to get away from Monarg. Amazingly, for a girl who was barely ten years old, she was able to fly the "Falcon" without damaging it to any major extent.
17. Which character from "Legacy of the Force" committed suicide in "Backlash"?

Answer: Cha Niathal

When asked about why she wouldn't arrest former Galactic Alliance Admiral Cha Niathal for working with Darth Caedus, since Daala had arrested Tahiri Veila for carrying out Caedus's orders during the Second Galactic Civil War, the Alliance Chief of State decided to call Niathal. Daala told Niathal that she would stand trial for working with Caedus, and in the end, the Chief of State would get her off legally because Daala likes military folk.

Instead, Niathal killed herself by dousing her water tank in carbon monoxide.
18. Which Sith Lord led the hunt for Abeloth in "Allies"?

Answer: Sarasu Taalon

Knowing that Luke Skywalker was the Sith's only chance in at least defeating Abeloth, or at most attaining her power, Taalon asked for an alliance with Luke in order to defeat the powerful entity. Luke agreed to this, though he would be wary of the Sith's actions in the midst of the alliance.

In the very next novel, "Vortex", the Sith would betray the Skywalkers, as expected, even as Abeloth continued to live.
19. On which world did the pan-galactic slave revolt begin during the events of "Allies"?

Answer: Klatooine

One of Klatooine's most cherished natural landmarks, the Fountain of the Hutt Ancients, was so revered that the planet's society denied any machinery within the landmark's vicinity. The Sith were interested in the Fountain's near-indestructible material, and decided to approach it via shuttle in order to take some of the landmark's material.

This attempt failed, and it started a slave-revolting riot that other slave-dependent planets experienced afterwards.
20. Which of Luke Skywalker's love interests does Abeloth impersonate in "Allies" when she confronts Luke and his allies?

Answer: Callista Ming

Callista was an Old Republic-era Jedi who transferred her spirit into the Galactic Empire's Dreadnaught, which was known as the "Eye of Palpatine". When she and Luke met, Callista was reincarnated, albeit without her Force powers. She and Luke eventually split up, and her soul would be absorbed into Abeloth's being.

As a result, Abeloth decided to use Callista's life energy as a distraction to Luke.
21. Which Jedi Master died in "Vortex"?

Answer: Kenth Hamner

When the Jedi decided to act against Daala, Hamner tried to stop them by killing their new acting leader, Saba Sebatyne, in combat. Their lightsaber duel brought them into the control room of the Jedi Temple's hangar bay, where Hamner attempted to foil the StealthX fleet's launch to help Luke Skywalker. In the end, Saba was forced to kill Hamner in order for the launch to proceed.
22. Who killed Sarasu Taalon in "Vortex"?

Answer: Vestara Khai

Taalon, who had been given extra Force powers after immersing himself in the Pool of Knowledge on Abeloth's world, decided to side with Abeloth, unbeknownst to the rest of the Lost Tribe of the Sith. As part of his new alliance with Abeloth, he would be involved in killing the Skywalkers, but Ben was able to convince Vestara that if Taalon allied with Abeloth, it would be bad for the Sith. So she turned on Taalon and stabbed him with her lightsaber.
23. Which Dark Jedi was mentioned in "Vortex"?

Answer: Kueller

Kueller was a Dark Jedi who had led a rebellion against the New Republic in the novel "The New Rebellion", set before the events of "The New Jedi Order". This rebellion had been stationed within the system of Almania, where the second half of the Skywalkers' arc of the novel took place. Kueller had been dead for close to thirty years at the point of "Vortex".
24. In which novel was Daala finally overthrown?

Answer: Conviction

In the middle of the series' seventh novel, "Conviction", Daala was finally overthrown through the coup that the Jedi Order decided to go through with. In the aftermath, Daala was arrested for the crimes she committed as Galactic Alliance Chief of State and was replaced by a triumvirate consisting of Saba Sebatyne, Haydnat Treen, and Merratt Jaxton. Daala later escaped thanks to the help of Boba Fett.
25. What did Abeloth do after Luke performed mnemotherapy on her?

Answer: She decided to ally with the Lost Tribe of the Sith

At the end of "Conviction", after Luke stripped her of all the souls she took, Abeloth decided to look to the Lost Tribe of the Sith in order to exact vengeance on Luke. Specifically, she looked to Gavar Khai to consider this bid. As revealed in the following novel, "Ascension," Khai accepted Abeloth's bid for alliance.
