Once upon a time there was an emperor. He was very vain and only thought about . He loved to wear fancy and had hundreds of shirts and pants.

The fact was the tailors were holding up and displaying imaginary shirts and pants. Everyone in the city pretended to see the clothes because they did not want to be seen as not smart enough to view the outfit. It was finally a little boy who announced the obvious.
Over the years, many morals or themes have been suggested. A common one is about the power of truth and that speaking honestly, even if it is difficult, is important. Others include the dangers of social pressure and blind loyalty to authority.
