Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Perpetuity Wing gives Lumon employees a glimpse of the company's past. Whose home has been recreated there?

Answer: Kier Eagan

The house is a replica of Kier Eagan's home, part of Lumon's tribute to its founder. The surrounding exhibits introduce other members of the Eagan family who have led the company. During the tour, a recording explains Kier's four tempers: woe, frolic, dread, and malice. Irving treats the visit with reverence, while Helly is much less impressed.
2. What alerts Helly to the first group of numbers she successfully refines at Lumon?

Answer: They make her feel afraid

The numbers frighten her. Mark has explained that certain groups can stir up feelings, but the idea only makes sense to Helly when she experiences it herself. She selects the unsettling numbers and moves them into a bin, earning cheers from her colleagues. She has learned how to do the job, even though she still has no idea what the data means.
3. Burt visits the refiners with some new handbook totes. Which department does he represent?

Answer: Optics and Design

Burt works in Optics and Design, or O&D. When he first meets Irving, he explains that his department hangs Lumon's paintings rather than creating them. On his later visit to the refiners, he delivers handbook totes before their general release and invites the group to see his department. Irving takes him up on the invitation, and the two men begin to grow closer.
4. During her punishment in Lumon's Break Room, what must Helly do over and over?

Answer: Read a prepared apology aloud

Helly has to read a prepared apology called the compunction statement. Reading the words is not enough for Milchick: he insists that she keep repeating them until he believes she means them. She cannot even put the apology into her own words. The punishment continues into a second workday, and she later tells the refiners that she read the statement more than a thousand times.
5. At Irving's wellness session, how does Ms. Casey tell him to respond to the facts about his outie?

Answer: Enjoy every fact without showing a preference

Ms. Casey offers Irving little pieces of information about his life outside Lumon, including that he owns records and is a good swimmer. He is supposed to enjoy every fact equally, without favouring one over another. When he reacts to particular details, she deducts points. Even this supposed break from work comes with strict rules: she warns that speaking again will end the session.
6. Dylan proudly shows Helly his finger traps and erasers. What does he say these Lumon rewards represent?

Answer: How far he has progressed through a file

The prizes mark progress through a file. Lumon turns stages of data refinement into small rewards, with finger traps, erasers, and caricature portraits among the incentives. Dylan keeps his collection at his workstation and takes pride in it. He points to the portraits in particular as proof of the files he has finished.
7. Milchick wheels in a cart and offers Helly a choice of musical genre and an accessory. What is this Lumon office reward called?

Answer: A Music Dance Experience

This is a Music Dance Experience, usually shortened to MDE. Helly chooses Defiant Jazz and a maraca, and Milchick encourages the refiners to join the celebration while he dances. The cheerful mood does not last: Dylan bites Milchick, bringing the party to an abrupt end. Milchick announces that the experience is cancelled.
8. A self-help book by Mark's brother-in-law, Ricken, finds its way onto the severed floor. What is its title?

Answer: "The You You Are"

Ricken Hale is the author of "The You You Are". A copy meant for Mark is taken into Lumon and examined for hidden messages before the refiners discover it. Mark starts reading despite the ban on outside books, and Ricken's words make a deep impression on him. In the season finale, his innie gets the chance to tell Ricken how much the book has meant to him.
9. During the rebellion by Lumon's refiners, what does the overtime contingency let their innies do?

Answer: Wake up in their lives outside Lumon

The overtime contingency lets an innie wake up outside the severed floor. Dylan discovers this firsthand when Milchick activates him at home to ask him questions. Once he tells the others, they realise the same system could give them a chance to reach people beyond Lumon. It is only a temporary switch, though; it does not permanently reunite their work and outside memories.
10. In the season one finale, what does Helly tell the gala audience about Lumon's severed workers?

Answer: They are imprisoned and tortured at work

The audience expects Helena Eagan to speak in favour of severance, but it is her innie who takes the microphone. Helly identifies herself as an innie and says that the workers are prisoners who are tortured downstairs. Natalie has just urged her to stick to the prepared talking points.

Instead, Helly uses her brief opportunity to tell the audience what working at Lumon has been like for her.
