The giant candle that stands in Damascus reaches 21 feet high. It's made of stuccoed steel and concrete and stands in front of the fire department. It has replaced another candle that had been constructed in 1959 to celebrate Oregon's centennial. Scappoose's Peace Candle of the World stands 50 feet tall and measures 18 feet in diameter. It was built in 1971 as advertisement for a local candle factory.
