The movie opens with an outside shot of Coolidge College accompanied with Van's opening voice-over. As the camera cuts inside Van's dorm room, we see that an elderly oriental lady has been taking measurements of Van's legs in order that she can alter his trousers for him.

Gwen then uses the same "trick" that Van used to get Gwen out of class earlier in the movie, setting off the sprinkler system so that the archive guy evacuates the building, allowing a suitably clothed Gwen free access to the archives!

As the door opens we see a student who clearly lives up to his name, and Van, without missing a beat, hands him a plastic glass and says, "Matzo ball soup. Jewish penicillin. Don't pick at it."

We see Van and Taj at a college basketball game where the home team - the Chickadees - are losing badly (34-62) to their opponents. As the players go off for a break, we see Van get out of his seat, and head to the locker room to provide the Chickadees with one of his trademark motivational speeches whilst their coach, who is deaf, and oblivious to Van's presence, is looking the other way and plotting out team tactics on a blackboard. Van's encouragement clearly works, as we see a freshly invigorated Chickadee team score a number of impressive hoops!

Van is throwing yet another of his famous parties, when we see Richard and his friends turn up. Jeannie distracts Hutch, who is tending the door to make sure only those invited get into the party, and whilst his back is turned, Gordon ushers a load of schoolkids into the party. Having received an anonymous tip off (no doubt from Richard), a Trooper turns up to enquire about some underage drinking. Sure enough, a couple of the schoolkids, who are clearly intoxicated, come out from the party, and Van's fate is sealed.

Delta Iota Kappa president Richard, a medical student, gives an overly-detailed account of the medical issues that the pledges could encounter if they were to walk on broken glass, but balances this with the question, "How bad do you wanna be a Delta?" His girlfriend, Gwen, walks in, asking if Richard is ready to study (to which Richard responds with stifled frustration, "I'm in the middle of an 80 year tradition here,") before advising the blindfolded pledges that "they're just Doritos". Armed with this information, the pledges happily jump onto and then continue to dance on the Doritos, much to Richard's annoyance.

We were first introduced to Milty Mingleton at the Save the Swim Team Speedo Spectacular, naturally organised by Van, earlier in the movie. In that scene, Milty was wearing a rather figure hugging pair of Speedos which had the words "Save the Swim Team" on the back. He is more normally dressed in this appeal scene, however his weight is clearly too much for the rope on which he is abseiling down the building, as it snaps and sends him dropping to the ground, which is fortunately not too far below. Our fears for Milty's well-being are further allayed when we hear him call, "I'm okay."

He continues thus... "If you'll kindly take a look at my transcripts you'll see I'm a mere 18 units shy of graduating with a degree in leisure studies. I am pleading to this committee, reinstate me. Let me audit my last six classes, take the necessary finals and leave Coolidge with a degree."

Despite having had the best GPA for the past fifty years, the Lambda Omega Omega guys have not much in the way of success with the ladies, and are looking for Van to aid them in throwing a party that they can be proud of, and that people will actually turn up to. Van initially refuses, saying that he just doesn't have the time, but when Panos shows Van a wad of money and asks how much Van's time is worth, Van quickly changes his mind!

Darius is a member of Coolidge's basketball team who, for the most part, are only seen for the one scene of the film. He's the most noteable for being the subject of Van's line: "Darius, I want you all over that ball like a fat kid on a cupcake!" He also asks about girls from Mount Hollyoak, giving Van sufficient ammunition to fire up the team to a comeback victory.
