"Don't Give Up On Us" was written by Tony Macaulay. It was number one for four weeks on the UK singles chart for David Soul in 1977. It was number one for one week on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year. David Soul was born David Richard Solberg in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in 1943. He attended the University of the Americas in Mexico City and the University of Minnesota. He was offered a contract to play baseball with the Chicago White Sox but chose to study political science instead. He became known as the "Covered Man" after appearances on The Merv Griffin TV Show in 1966 and 1967, on which he sang while wearing a mask. In 1967 he appeared as Dennis Blake in one episode of "Flipper" and as Makora in "The Apple", an episode of the original "Star Trek". Of course he is most famous as one half of "Starsky and Hutch", a TV series that ran from 1975 to 1979. It starred David Soul as Kenneth Hutchinson and Paul Michael Glaser as David Michael Starsky. They were two police detectives in Bay City, California. Also starring were Antonio Fargas as police informer Huggy Bear and Bernie Hamilton as Captain Harold C. Dobey.

The core membership of Enchantment began at a Detroit high school when a group of students won a contest sponsored by a local Dee-Jay in 1969. In 1976 they released the Roadshow Records "Enchantment" album which contained the single release "Gloria". When "Gloria" reached Number 25 it became their highest charting single on the US Pop charts. The following year "It's You That I Need" made it to Number 33 and also topped the Rhythm and Blues charts. In 1980 the group signed with RCA Records and released the "Soft Lights, Sweet Music" LP when Roadshow went out of business. In 1980 "Utopia" on Columbia Records became their final album release. The Emotions were formed in Chicago and originally consisted of the Hutchinson sisters: Jeanette, Sheila and Wanda. Their upbeat song "Best of My Love" soared to the top of the U.S. Billboard singles charts in the summer of 1977. The song was co-written by Maurice White and Al McKay of Earth, Wind & Fire fame. Some of the lyrics to this song read: "Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love / Whoa, whoa you've got the best of my love.." Julie Covington was born in London, England, in 1946. She got her big break while still a student at Homerton College, Cambridge, when she appeared on the David Frost show in 1967. She appeared in "Godspell" in 1971 and "The Rocky Horror Show" in 1973. He made it to the Top 20 on the Billboard Country chart when "Kentucky Means Paradise" (with the Green River Boys) peaked at number 20 in 1962. He then had 11 Top Ten country hits between 1967 and 1971 including the number one hits "I Wanna Live" (1968), "Wichita Lineman" (1968) and "Galveston" (1969). He had five Top Ten hits on the UK singles chart between 1969 and 1975. His biggest UK hit was "All I Have To Do Is Dream" a duet with Bobbie Gentry which peaked at number three in 1970. This configuration of Manhattan Transfer were were formed in 1973 by Tim Hauser. The group consisted of Tim Hauser, Laurel Masse, Alan Paul and Janis Siegel. In 1978 Laurel Masse was badly injured in a car crash and was replaced by Cheryl Bentyne. "Chanson D'Amour" was their only Top Ten hit on the UK singles chart. In 1977 the Number 26 "Ariel" was Dean Friedman's only US Top Forty single, however, he did make it to Number Three on the UK charts the following year with a duet accompanied by Denise Marsa titled "Lucky Stars". The Paramus, New Jersey, singer was singing at local events in his teens with a band called Marsha and the Self-Portraits. When he was twenty years old he signed with Lifesong Records and released "Ariel" two years later. The unusual song about a Jewish girl stayed on the charts for five months. Although he never reached the US Top Forty after "Ariel" he sang for television commercials and theme songs. Mac McAnally barely made the 1977 Top Forty with the Number 37 "It's a Crazy World" and "Jeans On" by David Dundas reached Number 17.
