Adele Trivia Questions

1. Singer/songwriter Adele was born in London in 1988. What is her surname?

From Quiz
Adele, a Singer of Our Times

Answer: Adkins

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham, London, on 5 May 1988 and in her early childhood also lived in Brighton for a couple of years before she and her mother returned to London. She showed musical talent from a very early age and, encouraged by her mother, attended the BRIT School, from which she graduated in 2006. With her early links to Tottenham, Adele is a keen supporter of Tottenham Football Club and can sometimes be seen at their matches. She is active on social media and keeps fans updated on her music, having huge followings on Twitter and Instagram. In late 2022 an announcement referenced Adele's four-month residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip from November 2022, called 'Weekends with Adele'.

2. For which song from Adele's album '19', which was also released as a single, did she win a Grammy Award in 2009?

From Quiz Adele, a Singer of Our Times

Answer: Chasing Pavements

All of the above four songs were from Adele's '19' album, which enjoyed phenomenal success worldwide, but 'Chasing Pavements' was the most successful. Co-written by Adele and Francis 'Eg' White, it reached number two in the UK charts and charted in the top ten in several other countries. Her '19' album won Adele her first two Grammy Awards; she won in the Best New Artist category and also won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for 'Chasing Pavements', where she faced stiff competition from such luminaries as Pink, Katy Perry and Leona Lewis. 'Chasing Pavements' was also nominated in two other categories.

3. Adele is known for naming her albums after the age she was at the time of writing and recording her songs, and they represent different stages in her life. What is the name of her album which features the song 'Easy On Me'?

From Quiz Adele, a Singer of Our Times

Answer: 30

'Easy On Me' appears on Adele's fourth album, '30', along with 'Strangers by Nature', 'Can I Get It' and 'To Be Loved'. It was released in 2021 and was very well received, becoming the best-selling album in the world in 2021 with sales of over 5½ million copies in its first few weeks. It was voted British Album of the Year by the Brit Awards in 2022 and was also nominated for the Juno Award for International Album of the Year, which was won by Olivia Rodrigo with her debut album 'Sour'.

4. "I've made up my mind, Don't need to think it over If I'm wrong, I am right Don't need to look no further" These are the first lines to which of Adele's wistful songs released in 2008?

From Quiz Adele

Answer: Chasing Pavements

"Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements Even if it leads nowhere? Or would it be a waste even if I knew my place Should I leave it there? Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements Even if it leads nowhere?" 'Chasing Pavements' was inspired by an angry break-up after learning her boyfriend at the time had cheated on her. She felt she was chasing an empty pavement - and recorded the song almost right there and then, singing into her phone as she walked home! A spontaneous success indeed. The song was certified Platinum in the U.S., and hit single figures in the charts of Norway, UK Singles, Italy, Ireland and Denmark.

5. From early 2008 until July 2009 Adele embarked on a world tour, featuring songs from her first album, '19', in which she visited several countries. What was the name given to this tour?

From Quiz Adele, a Singer of Our Times

Answer: An Evening with Adele

Adele's 'An Evening With Adele' tour began in Manchester, England. Although it initially got off to a difficult start when some dates were cancelled, the tour went on to be a huge success and took in several venues in the USA and Canada as well as in the UK and other Western European countries. One of the most high profile venues was the Roseland Ballroom In New York City. Her penultimate performance took place at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl and, returning to Europe, ended at the Rotterdam Ahoy venue where the North Sea Jazz Festival was taking place.

6. "I wish I could lay down beside you When the day is done And wake up to your face against the morning sun" Which of Adele's reflective songs released in 2011 features these lyrics?

From Quiz Adele

Answer: Hiding My Heart

The rest of the verse goes as follows: "But like everything I've ever known You disappear one day So I spend my whole life hiding my heart away" 'Hiding My Heart' was a limited-edition bonus track for the UK and Bulgaria '21' album which might depict a whirlwind romance that only left sadness in its wake. What is perhaps less well-known is that the song was actually a cover originally featuring in folk rock singer Brandi Carlile's album 'The Story' in 2007 as a hidden track.

7. Adele has had a very successful career and as such has garnered many prestigious awards in the industry. She was further honoured by Queen Elizabeth II in her Birthday Honours in 2013. Which honour was bestowed on her?

From Quiz Adele, a Singer of Our Times

Answer: MBE

Adele was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the late Queen's Birthday Honours in 2013 for services to music, which she received from Prince Charles, now King Charles III. Other well-known names also honoured with the MBE the same year were Welsh singer Aled Jones, actor David Haig, former British badminton player Derek Talbot and former BBC newsreader Kay Alexander.

8. "I can't keep up with your turning tables Under your thumb, I can't ____" Which word fills the gap of the missing lyric from Adele's 'Turning Tables' released in 2011?

From Quiz Adele

Answer: Breathe

"So I won't let you close enough to hurt me, no I won't ask you, you to just desert me I can't give you, what you think you give me It's time to say goodbye to turning tables Turning tables" 'Turning Tables' was written with songwriter Ryan Tedder, who saw the concept of Adele 'turning tables' with her ex-boyfriend and grew the song from there. The song has ambiguous meaning; there is the hint at physical or emotional abuse, or perhaps just that they argued frequently. In addition to being on album '21', 'Turning Tables' was released as a single, although it only gained prominence in the charts of Belgium and Italy, hitting single figures within both of them (but not quite number one). Finally, 'Turning Tables' was the first of Adele's songs to feature on pop-culture music show 'Glee', sung by Gwyneth Paltrow.

9. 'There ain't no gold in this river That I've been washing my hands in forever' Which of Adele's songs from her album '30' opens with these lyrics?

From Quiz Adele, a Singer of Our Times

Answer: Easy on Me

'Easy on Me' was a big winner for Adele from her album '30'; the other three choices had been from her album '21'. Released in October 2021 by Columbia Records, '30' was a chart-topper in several countries. It was 2021's best-selling album in the world and won many prestigious awards including three at the Brit Awards the following year, in the categories Best British Single, British Album of the Year and British Artist of the Year. Adele's official video of the song 'Oh My God' from '30' was released in early 2022 and received a nomination for the MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction.

10. In 2013, Adele won her first Academy Award for Best Original Song for her rendering of the theme song for a film in the 'James Bond' franchise which had been released the previous year. Which Bond film was this?

From Quiz Adele, a Singer of Our Times

'Skyfall' is the 23rd film in the James Bond franchise and stars Daniel Craig in the title role for the third time, with Javier Bardem as Bond villain Raoul Silva and Dame Judi Dench as MI6 boss M.
